I just moved to San Tan Valley from Connecticut this Thursday with my wife. We got our Arizona drivers licenses, plates, registered to vote Republican, and got Arizona phone numbers the last few days.
Went shooting at Rio Salado with a buddy on Saturday. First time shooting past 100 yards, hit the 300 yard plate with my SBR no problem. Got myself a membership to Scottsdale Gun Club as well. Attached File Also saw and killed my first scorpion tonight. Attached File I suppose I wanted to say hi to my new neighbors. My wife and I are loving it out here. I don't start my new job until the beginning of next month so if any of you guys would like to meet up to grab a beer, hang out, go hiking or shooting just send me a PM. |

Welcome! But you’re not an Arizonan until you pay the ammo tax
|

|
Welcome!
I'm always down for beer, but no gay stuff on the first meet! |

You moved here at the best time of the year. Enjoy it! I'm from Queen Creek but live in north Phoenix. And I killed a scorpion in my hallway last night. Rocked him like a hurricane.
|
|
Welcome. Yeah, you did pick a good time to move here and settle in.
When I moved here it was at in the beginning of a summer and I have to admit it did take me a while to acclimate. I'm starting on my ninth year here so I guess I'm a Zonie by now since I consider the morning temps we're now enjoying as being cold. BTW-I'm down near Florence as well. Maybe some of us extreme east valley guys should do a meet up for a beer or two. |
|
Welcome to AZ. As others have said, you picked the perfect time. Enjoy your first glorious fall/winter in AZ.
|
|
You usually have to be here 5 years and/or survive 2 100-year floods.
(Floods to the level they only occur once in a hundred years.) ((Obviously, our flood specialists don't get a whole lot of practice.)) And, while Rizzo is failing in reporting his collection of ammo tax the last few years, ya gotta pay it to be a native. Just the way things go. |

Welcome to Arizona, lots to see & do here.
Since you are free for the month I strongly recommend you come out to The Big Sandy Shoot October 19-21. The biggest machine gun and artillery/cannon shoot in the world. I'll be on the line with a few friends so come out and get to meet your NFA neighbors. Big Sandy 2016 SAR Promo |

Welcome! You are trapped now, as you are going to experience the good weather before the lava show in summer. :)
Work in Phx, but live in Casa Grande here, the public range in CG is free, and had berms out to 300, and then steel up the hill if you can find it with binos/scope. :) Let me know if you head this way! Onyx |

Gotta spend at least one full summer here to be an Arizonan. You're gonna love June.
|
|
Until you have spent at least 2 summers here and stayed you are not. And until your able to say “But It's A Dry Heat!” when it's over 110 . Remember it's not soda it's pop, it's not a bag it's a sack, and if you don't understand some Spanish you going to have a tough time .

I don't recognize your name from CTHTF too much but welcome I just moved here too. What a difference from New England, the summer here was brutal some days.
Question for guys on the Big Sandy shoot as a spectator can we shoot anyone's guns? Or only the rentals booth? Also check out Sportsman warehouse they have a bunch of nice stores in the area. The Cabela's is cool too. There are so many smaller shops to all over. |

I need to pick up a precision bolt gun now that I'm somewhere that actually has ranges over 200 yards. I'll pick one up once I start working and have money to play with. Haven't been to Cabela's yet. Been swinging by the shops as well, gun shops are unreal here. Hit up Scottsdale Gub Club, Ted's, C2, Tombstone Tactical, and Haley Strategic's shop. I'm excited to give these guys my money. All have awesome selections and such nice staff. |

In truth none of your are really Arizonans until you have fired at the Ajo long range (unlimited range) in July.
|
|
|
Welcome! Another gun shop in the east valley is A.J.I. Sporting Goods on the Apache Trail in Apache Junction.
I'm in Apache Junction BTW. |

The Ajo range is maintained by Pima County Parks and Rec. It is 300 meters but some BP agents into real distance shooting went 100 meters to the right and put up a chair and table so you can shoot a mile or two if necessary. However you honestly should look for illegals trying to cross a wash before you shoot, or don't.

Why don't you take him to that fantastic Mexican Cafe in Florence. View Quote You get a chance NFA-Joe, come on down, we’ll take some NFA toys out. |

Welcome! I have been here 5 years and really love it here. Still haven’t seen a scorpion yet though.

Very cool. I'm planing on getting into long range shooting now that I'm here. Is that Virgil Ellis, Tucson Rifle Club or something else? View Quote |

Quoted: Virgil Ellis. However a bunch of us meet at the Tucson Rifle Club also. I actually took my Scout Platoon there to zero our M 60's with tripods before we joined the 7th ID at Ord to be their roundout for the Invasion of Panama. Ft. Huachca Range Control wouldn't allow us to zero at 1K because they said we would tear up the target frames. 3 Points let the entire Platoon zero 2 M 60's per track. View Quote |

You are an Arizonan now, especially after registering to vote. Get some! And welcome to the party, pal.

Welcome. I'm a member out at Rio; it's about 10 minutes from me.
If you can believe it, I've never seen a Scorpion in my house. Maybe the cat gets them all, but in 21 years I have zero kills. |

Just be sure you don't use any kind of muzzle brake on the benches marked "No muzzle brakes" at Rio.
Saw the RSO yelling at an old guy who insisted it was a compensator. "This is MY house!" Welcome |

You either have to be born in AZ, or spent your 1st summer here which includes having to change a flat tire in the middle of the day in 118 deg to be considered a real Arizonan.
Bonus points is a second flat tire change in the middle of a monsoon storm or you've experienced cholla cactus encounter My kids are born AZ and yes on all above. More than once. |
|
Cholla, or jumping cactus, are definitely on the bucket list for new arrivals. Don’t be sitting on them!
|
|
You must memorize and sing
"I Love you Arizona" Only then will you be on your way. |
