Whoops.

A traffic stop by the Arizona Department of Public Safety Wednesday allegedly uncovered bomb-making components in the vehicle of 51-year-old Jeffrey Metcalf, a former Marine, according to ABC Phoenix affiliate KNXV-TV.

"The task force obtained and served a search warrant at Metcalf's residence in Mesa where a total of 42 pipe bombs were found along with material for the manufacturing of another possible 30 pipe bombs," the Arizona Department of Public Safety said in a statement.

Or maybe he just like blowing things up.. i mean who doesnt.

If it were easier to buy/own/play with recreational explosives id do it in a heartbeat.(Ive done it in the past legally and it was F U N)

Post article reading reply
Sounds like he was just prepping anyways.. no set in stone plans for them.  They were just in case.

Lots of us did stupid shit as teens and never hurt anyone, and never had intentions of hurting anyone.

There was an adult making flash powder in Surprise where they found parts of him several roofs down. Honestly don't think he would've hurt anyone.

Yea , we all loved to play with explosives when we were young. Some of us never grow up and still love to play with explosives . He is 51 . Back in the day some of us made a mixture of Ammonium  nitrate , nitro nitromethane and powdered aluminum because we couldn't get dynamite ,been there done that . Pipe bombs with shrapnel added are no joke and are against the law and a danger to us all .
Anyone with 42 pipe bombs and supply's to make more is up to something bad and a danger to  public safety . .

While I understand where you are coming from, with that logic, anyone who has reloading equipment to be able to make infinite ammo or a safe full of guns is a danger to society, and we all know that isn't true. If they are illegal, he should get in trouble, but I don't think we can or should speculate that they were to be used nefariously, or that he was a bad person. A criminal yes, but with the way things are going, we may all be criminals soon, if simple minded folks keep getting their way.

Being a hand loader and an ammo hog is not the same thing, people hunt and target practice , and prep for self defense  . The guy has PSTD and has 42 shrapnel bombs . That is a bad combination . Shrapnel pipe bombs are too damn dangerous for people with psychological problems . How would you and your family  like to be his next door neighbor knowing he has mental problems and pipe bombs ?

I wouldn't like it, but my main point was the painting with broad strokes and jumping to conclusions. As everyone has said, including yourself, it's fun to blow stuff up (not including people). The reason I wouldn't like being his neighwbor wouldn't have anything to do with the pipe bombs though, it would be because of the mental issues. A crazy person is crazy and will kill/hurt you with anything they have or can find.

ETA I hadn't even read the article until after I posted this. He's been making them for 4 years for SHTF, after reading the article I feel your comments are even further off for condemning him, until it's proven he was going to do something bad with them, it should still be innocent until proven guilty.

Fuck every one of you  who demonize the guy for having PTSD. That doesn’t mean he’s crazy. Y’all don’t even know how severe it is, or what it does to him....

Hard to envision how you would use a pipe bomb in a defensive situation while guns and ammo can.

I knew I recognized him.

By the way, he’s a good dude, I remember him raising money for some Marine charity at gun shows.

He’s likely a good neighbor too.

In a SHTF scenario, if a group of people are coming to take your preps or rape your wife or sell you into slavery, you couldn't see a use in a defensive situation? If any group of people coming for a single person or a couple people, a pipe bomb could clear an entire room or hallway, or at least make a good dent.

In a non defensive situation, what if he bought property and wanted to try mining for minerals?

What if he's a redneck and was taught to fish by blowing them up?

What if he bought property that has a beaver dam on it and needed to blow it apart and the little fuckers kept coming back, so he made extras? Cause I've got roof rats at the moment and have about 20 mouse and rat traps. Some would call that excessive, but the little bastards won't go away.

Those are just a couple of ideas I could think of quickly that would be useful (not just for the fun of blowing stuff up) with pipebombs.

And I don't remember seeing anything in the article about PTSD, just that he was a former marine. So I don't know where that came from?

I am not demonizing him for having ptsd ,I am saying what he is doing is illegal even for people who are thinking clearly . I don't think we need to take chances with something like this .Hell cherry bombs, ashcans ,M80's are all illegal and can not be bought or sold . The law is clear on this . If you don't like the law as it stands consult your representative and work within the system.

Does that include the people in NJ, NY, MA and CA who have been royally fucked by their representatives?
I really HATE the fucking attitude of "Don't like the law contact your representative" having lived under it for 60 years and saw there was ZERO use in trying to change a FUBAR system.

Ask me how I really feel on this subject.

From what you saying you are sounding like a cynic and an anarchist . You may not like the system we have in this country and it may not be perfect ,but it beats the hell out of every country on the planet . We all have the same frustrations with our elected representatives ,but what the fuck can we do but vote . What would your solution to the problem be ? The founding fathers created the constitution and a system that has served us well for over 200 years. If you have a better solution or system , you should enlighten us . We are a democratic republic where the majority rules . The rule of law is the foundation of our constitution . As bad as you think the system is ,it is still the gold standard of the world.  The problem is we are dealing with human nature ,where everyone wants to get their way and doesn't  care how. It is and always has been and will always be all about money, power ,and control and who has it . Working within the system is the only thing we can do . Vote, because evil prevails when good men fail to act . At 67 I have seen the same BS as you ,but I do not of  know a better way than what we have .
The best I ever heard it explained is the song from Ten Years After Id love to change the world .

Yes, we are a democratic republic but the majority rules only within the defined bounds of the Constitution. The majority doesn't get to vote the minority into serfdom, etc.  States and the federal government routinely disregard the Constitution & Bill of Rights. The scope of government is now so vast that the term "limited & defined powers" is a bad joke. We pay lip service to the principles & constitution our founders fought to establish.

I lived in NJ for most of my life. I have seen first hand what an out of control government does and how it is impervious to change by votes or legal challenge. When I hear "Don't like the law contact your representative" it really burns my ass having seen how empty that statement can be in place where the law is what ever they say it is because WE make the law.

Like you, I have no palatable solution to the 'progressive' slide into unconstitutional laws and acts. My gripe is with your statement of taking it to your representative when that has been shown to be a dead end. As the saying goes don't piss on my leg and tell me it's raining. Here in Arizona we still have a government that can and has listened to us as evidenced by the improved 2nd amendment rights we have gained in the last decade. In other states the complete opposite is the rule.

Yes I am a cynic when it comes to the direction our country is sliding as I don't see this ending well for any of us. As for sounding like an anarchist read my sig line, I'm a constitutional fundamentalist.

I'll get off my milk crate now and let others discuss the original post topic.

You keep bringing up PTSD, from what I saw in the article, it didn't say he had PTSD, and even if he did, that doesn't necessarily make him a threat. So unless you have some inside info, you are making a large assumption, and you know what they say about assuming...

As I stated in my first post, if it's illegal, he should pay. You do the crime, you do the time. No issue there. The issue is your "logic", assumptions and the fact that you've already found him guilty of anything and everything. Your "logic" of bombs are dangerous weapons and no one should have them, is the same that the gun grabbers are using to take our rights. So I just can't get behind you touting that, when if you switch the word bomb to gun, you would raise hell if someone else said it. If everyone on his jury has the same attitude and thought pattern as you, he'd be fucked royally on anything they wanted to add on like terrorism, conspiracy, etc etc because in their eyes he's crazy and guilty and just throw the book at him.

Now I'm not him, so I don't know the whole story. Maybe he's crazy, maybe he's sane. Maybe he was gonna do bad shit, maybe he wasn't. It's just to jump to conclusions, make assumptions and condemn him, without knowing all the facts, is wrong and to be honest, ignorant, in my opinion.

Interesting that we both are from NJ ( Morris county ), I was born in and lived in NJ up until 1972 when I moved to Mesa . I moved back to NJ in 1973 due to the awful summer heat and low wages here . In  1988  I moved back to Phoenix and started my own biz. NJ is a socialist police state with draconian gun laws and I could never live there again. All I am saying is don't break the law and work within the system for change.
