My LLM dissertation touched on this area and the correct answer is "sort of". Not in the sense that you think, but yes in the sense that Sharia has a viable role in ADR an an alternative to traditional courts in the first instance. We actually got the idea from America

Where/ when did you do your LLM? You are a lawyer I take it? Did you enjoy it / did you specialise?

Get run over by towel heads see if I give a damn. May they take over your country like a pack of wild dogs. You and others turned a good thread into a utterly pissing match. So have fun in your new Islamic state I hope you like it. And I'm not mad, I feel sorry for you that you that you can't see what is happening.

I am not telling you how to live by any means so quit putting words in my mouth.

What is your problem?

Every thread you stumble into you start ranting about some mythical muslim takeover....then when people ask "what muslim takeover?" you start saying how blind they are and seem incredulous to the fact that despite your beliefs, most people really would be hard pressed to find a problem. Your diet of bigoted nonsense is clearly making you dump a brain fart in everything you post.

You strike me as a very frightened man. You need to stay away from the gogandmagogites that are warping your mind.  There always has and always will be conflict between extremists, there will always be people like yourself who are incapable.... or more likely scared of standing back and seeing things from a different perspective and choose to live in fear.

Perhaps you should try visiting the UK to find out for yourself.... like a fact finding mission.   It's very easy to get all riled up about things when your sources are biased, your knowledge base is flawed and you beleive everything you read.

This hasn't been a good thread..... it's been a one sided rant about an islamic state that doesn't exist, sharia courts that don't exist, a muslim takeover that has yet to materialise, and your blind faith in a woman who seems to have been shown to be a liar in an effort to garner sympathy, bolster her repuation and make money.  Much like Clinton.

Thank you for your deep concern, the verbal abuse and your bigoted excentric views, but please stop worrying about us.  We are OK.

Nope, but I found this on Wiki

Brigitte Gabriel (born October 21, 1964) is a Lebanese American journalist, author, and activist. (well what is she, Lebanese or American?)

Brigitte Gabriel was born in the Marjayoun District in Lebanon to a Christian family.

According to Gabriel, during the Lebanese Civil War, militants launched an assault on a Lebanese military base near her family's house and bombed her home. Gabriel reports that she and her parents were forced to live in an 8'x10' bomb shelter underground for seven years with only a small kerosene heater, no sanitary systems, no electricity or running water and little food.[9] To get water she states that she had to crawl in a ditch alongside a road to a spring in order to evade Muslim snipers.[9]

Later, in 1978, Gabriel says a man warned her family of an impending attack on Christians by militias. She says that her life was saved that night when Israelis invaded Lebanon in Operation Litani. Later, her mother was seriously injured and was taken to an Israeli hospital where Gabriel noted the humanity of the Israelis in contrast to the propaganda against the Jews she says she saw as a child.[10]

Critics of Gabriel state that her biographical account is riddled with factual inaccuracies. While she claims that she lived for seven years in a bomb shelter, her former neighbours in Marjayoun say that her family, like that of others in the village, may have spent a few nights in their shelter or basement at times, but that they otherwise lived relatively normally.[11]

Gabriel also used to tell audiences that Hizbullah was the group that terrorised her family for the seven years between 1975 and 1982. She stopped making this claim after people objected, pointing out that Hizbullah was formed after she left Lebanon, as a direct result of the Israeli invasion and occupation of 1982.[11]

Sounds like a billy bullshitter to me

I meet her last Thursday at a meeting in the U.S.A. and she is an American citizen. She considers herself an American and that the official language is English. There is to much too much political Correctness that covers up the truth about the Radical Muslims. And you misspelled Hezbollah. And it was Islamic Radicals(Muslims) that destroyed her home. She is not a bullshitter and if I where you I would wake up to the growing Muslim Brotherhood in your country before they tell you what to do.  I heard that you have Sharia Law in your court systems. Is that true or false?

You need to learn some basic grammar. 'Too' is the adverb as opposed to 'to' the preposition.

Additionally, staring a sentence with the conjunctive 'And' is generally frowned upon.

You clearly value the English language, perhaps you might invest some further time mastering it?

As others have said, you might also want to consider cross referencing your 'facts' to ensure their veracity before getting all hot and bothered.. In any case, the imminent implosion of the US economy (can anyone say 'thirteen trillion in the hole..') presents a greater immediate threat than the 'takeover' of the U.S.A. in the near future.. How's your 'prepping' going?

For starters are you my new grammar teacher? You might want to teach Agent Funky how to spell correctly.

And as far as the US in debt, that just goes to show you a house Negro can't run a country much less a shoe shine operation. I didn't vote for that POS.

I'm prepared for the worst. At least we have the 2nd Amendment and can have all kinds of toys.

Agent Funky didn't start mouthing off about how important the English language is to him.

Your second comment doesn't warrant a response save to suggest that you perhaps should revise you economic history.

US Debt has consistently grown under both Dem and Rep presidents and grew significantly under Regan, Bush and Obama. CLinton was the only exception to this in since the 1980s.

Had you considered that if it all falls apart, there are going to be an awful lot of people relying on that 2nd Amendment? I'm not sure that's going to be all that great when it comes down to it... Good luck, I think you are going to need it.

Those writing in Arabic, if you can't write in English don't bother responding since you are probably part of th terrorist cell. I have my people translating what you wrote as I write this.

Quality. Let me know what it says because I did a cut and paste from an Arabic website about soap operas and I haven't got a fucking clue what all those Little squiggles mean.

I bet 50 quid that Fazal is banging some turtle necked bespectacled Manc called Dierdre to get his Visa, Rashid the mechanic has just been caught snorting coke off the bonnet of a Datsun, and Tracy the street drama teen is going upstairs to play her Koranic tapes in a huff because she's about to come on the blob and Rafiq is out shagging her bezzy mate.

BTW.... I heard that the Ground Zero Mosque had already been built...is this true?

Not true as of yet but they are trying thereTHEIR damnedest.

Oh sweet baby Jesus and the orphans !! For a man / woman / heshe opposed to other languages, you constantly murder your mother tongue.

And its "not true as yet" - chucking an "of" in there is a superfluous use of a word.

And the word "uprise" does not even exist ! Are you now inventing words in the manner of Ms Palin ?? It is uprising, you eejit.

Fuck you twat. Hows that for proper English. You misspelled a few words that I underlined and corrected.

Well, thanks for your input. I have learned a lot about you in a short time. I feel sorry for you - must be very depressing to live in a constant state of paranoia and fear.

As to takeover / breakdown of law and order / zombie attack / whatever other disaster - why not admit it - you ( and people like you ) actually WANT it to happen.

Then you get a chance to take to your bunker, break out the cache and kill looters / ragheads / zombies or whatever group that does not fit your criteria of those who deserve to live.

Two little sayings for you to cut out and keep -
1, People in glasshouses should not throw stones - if you are going to criticise a language, make sure of your own linguistic skills first.
2, Dont piss on my back and tell me its raining. Even you can work that one out.

Oh yes, let me know when the UPRISE is - I will bring my camera.

It's not like this thread can be derailed any more than it already is, so I might as well answer this.

Studied at the same place I did my undergrad, in a comfy little place in the middle of the UK - my Uni paid most of the post-grad fees to persuade me to work for them for a bit. I've also subsequently worked on developing/teaching modules up to level 7 (Masters level) to work up the cash to cover further specialised vocational training.

The LLM will give you whatever you put into it. Undergrad is about being spoon-fed information; for post grad there is no spoon If you're self-motivated you'll love it. Depending on the University, you may also be one of the few English speakers on the course which will make you the beloved of the lecturers. If so, you might also find that some parts of the course are effectively dumbed down to keep the high fee paying students (ie foreign) attending, which makes your life much easier This does not apply to all courses, or all modules. Couldn't speak for LSE specifically.

Plan well, start early, attend everything. Treat it like a job - you're already at a significant advantage as a mature student with an established work ethic. You'll be fine.

My Masters was in Commercial Law though professionally I specialise in expert witness evidence and advocacy. I'm still at the "exceptionally poor and lowly paid with multiple tens of thousands of pounds worth of debt" stage of the profession though, which is why I don't own a giant walk-in safe full of BAR goodness yet Got any spare change, guv'nor?

Sounds as though you enjoyed it... If I can get on, this will actually be the 2nd post grad as I did an MSc  in '01 (London).  That was in International Business, (specialisation strategy).. dissertation was on software development methodologies, licensing models and innovation - framed in the context of the the anti-trust litigation that the DOJ was engaged in with Microsoft at the time.

I enjoyed that a lot and 9 years on wanted to do something else to follow up (as much as anything else for the entertainment value).. a typical route would have been a PhD or maybe MBA (though much of that was already covered in the MSc). After a lot of thought though, I settled on an LLM with the Tech law specialisation because 1. It was a great fit with the area of research I am interested in 2. It provides differentiation from run of the mill Techie+MBA CV and 3. I like to argue (a lot)

Application is going in this week.  My only concern is that without an undergrad in Law, I will have to make a good case as to why they should accept me under their 'exception' criteria.. still LSE has a great rep and I figure nothing ventured...

Academically you have a "business" background and you've researched and sucessfully submitted high level papers in a legalistic framework, albeit in relation to a different jurisdiction. You can sell that with some confidence, it's good stuff.

By contrast, few lawyers will be going into it with an IT background so they have the same disadvantage in the IT-related subjects that you have in, say, contract-related subjects. The difference is you can establish existing research skills and both theoretical and real-world experience of contractual situations that will help you make up the lost ground more readily.

Best of luck with the application. I have every confidence based on the academic certs you can bring to the table.
