While still not thrilled about it, the wife is rolls her eyes less-often at the prospect of moving to the Phoenix area. From this to this . She's a very frugal person, so I always play the lower income tax/sales tax/property tax/housing cost angle.
Anyway, I'll be flying down late on August 1st, visiting the home builder in Chandler the morning of the 2nd to check out the model I'm interested in, then I'm free until the afternoon of the 3rd when I fly back! So I'd love to meet up with you guys, go shooting, grab some dinner or whatever! |
Dude, you are not going to regret moving to a state as free as this.
I'll wave at you from the Mexican border. |
It sounds like an excuse to shoot, eat and drink beer. You will find that an excuse is all we need.
Bring yourself on over.
We'll have to get together and toast to your new found freedom! |
Hey Lumpy, whereabouts? My parentsjust bought a house in Palominas and will be moving out there in August. |
Pete,
Get moved there bu Sept 5 so you can join us when I visit there on that date! |
It'll take six months to get the house built, but I'm sure I can tell the wife that I need to fly down that weekend to visit the homebuilder, fill out paperwork or something.
Pete-
Looking forward to having you as an addition to the local crew. Shoot me an IM with the name of the home builder and the area, I'd like to check it out... |
They're about 15 minutes south of me then. Make sure they are armed and lock their doors...thats UDA Alley. Beautiful ranch area though. |

Sounds like United Dairymen of Arizona to me! Be sure to drink plenty of milk while you are down here to support the local dairies! |

Great move on your part.
My wife is from San Diego and she loves medium town living, in Casa Grande. We are in Casa Grande, on IH 10 50 minutes from downtown Phoenix, 35 from state60 and IH10. IH8 and IH10 intersect at Casa Grande. You will get safer less stressful living here and you will save around 20 to 30 grand on your home. 2500 sq. ft. for under 200,000.00 Good schools IM me if you want more info on stores schools and life close to the big city but where you can escape from the masses. I am not a salesman on trying to sale you something. OH and a GREAt Range within 10 minutes from anywhere in town. Also a great airport if you are a pilot. |
Do you guys want to meet somewhere for dinner? Except for Saturday morning, I'm free the whole day.
Anyone? Hello? <knock knock> Is this thing on? |
I'm down, where you wanna go?
We could check out the dining in your potential new area down south at Queencreek/Alma School. I know at the very least theres: -Tomaso's -Pei Wei -Generic Sport's Bar that TreeTop says is good North of you -Outback -Mimi's -NYPD Pizza -Baja Fresh -Red Lobster -Charleston's Ive only listed about half of what's available. IM if you have any wacky ideas. |
... If I were home I'd join you guys |
Yeah, that's "Sidelines", they've got a great shrimp po'boy. And beer. I'm down for whatever. I've gotta make a couple airport runs this weekend but that shouldn't interfere too much.. -Cory. |
I'm down with whatever. Not like I'd know the good places anyways.
My sister's good friends with the owner Paul and his wife (name?). Good people, good place. |
Sounds good to me. Is this the place? Name a time and I'll be there.
I'm off to the airport. Give me a call if you want to meet at Sidelines for dinner on Saturday.
I left you a message at 5:10 or so, it went straight to voice mail. Gimme a call back when you can, I'm getting hungry...
i left one about 6:20, hope youre not dead or anything.
ill bet he got caught up at sonny's... which just gave me an idea. if only thefng were 21 anyway. |
Got ahold of Pete. We're meeting at SideLines at 7:50 pm, the address and map is linked above. We'll be there for a while if any other locals want to meet up. TopCrest called ahead, they're setting up some tables for us..
-Cory. |
We had a successful evening meeting up with Pete at Sidelines. I hope we didn't scare him off with all of our wacky ideas which you will all keep to yourselves.
Can't wait to see you out here for good Pete, nice to have met you. Molon Labe with an M1A. |
Are you kidding? I'd be doing the same stuff myself if I had the hardware. If you want to take a look at the models I was looking at, here's some pics, plus some from the fighter aircraft museum. It'll be way down near the corner of Gilbert and Hunt in Chandler (Engle Homes, Sun River). www.petenelson.com/Photos/Vacations/Phoenix,%20August%202003/ |
... Dang it DVDTracker, those pictures make me really homesick. I looked at those models myself earlier this year. I work right around the corner from that fighter museum and when I'm home I like to visit the "shop" too. I sure wished I was there to join yous guys. Are you moving to AZ?
That's the plan. I think the wife and I will fly down the last weekend this month so she can take a look... and hopefully put a deposit down. |
I'm surprised after reading this thread so many of you are in my neighborhood. My 11yo son and I often stop by the Sidelines Grill when we are out riding our mountain bikes. I like their Fat Tire on draft. Other places I like in the area are Abuellos, BJ's Brewery and I second the motion on NYPD Pizza. Good stuff!

Dmnait roadrunner, if you had come to our little soirée we (or at least I) couldve met you. You wouldve loved the ocnverstaion too.
Dman Pete, try to go the weekend after that (Set 6-7)so we can get together. |
Yes, sounds like a good time. Let me know next time. --RR |
What part of Cali are you from? I'm born and raised in the San Jose area... Campbell/Los Gatos to be specific. I came here to Chandler 6 years ago. --RR |

We're up in Antioch. Ed, shouldn't be a problem making it that weekend in Sept.
Checking with the sister-in-law to see if they'll watch out dog that weekend. If they can, we'll be there... with check in hand to buy! The wife actually expressed interest in a larger 5br/3ba two-story model they offer.
If it works out, we'll fly in that Friday night and head out Sunday. |
Confirmed, we'll be be getting in late in the evening 9/5 and leaving the afternoon of 9/7. Staying down in the Chandler area.
Ther has been a slight change of plans and now the whole A Team will get there on Thursday night! Edward,JLA,GoatBoy and myself have set aside friday morning and afternoon for visiting CavArms,AZEXArms and meeting all of you that can make it. I would think that TREETOP (if he is not too exausted when he comes back)or someone else should do the on site coordinating for everyone. As a suggestion,we could meet in the parking lot of CavArms at a specified time and take it from there. |
