A fellow worker wants to trade his in the case Springfield TRP for my Colt stainless Defender Plus 45.... straight up one for one.

I know his guns history and it’s mint. Same as mine. Mint.

Would you do this trade ?

The TRP will typically be better hand-fitted and function-tested, plus it's full-size.

The Colt is stainless and smaller -- not necessarily my favorite.

TRP is meant to be shot a lot. The smaller Colt is meant to be carried a lot and (most probably) seldom shot.

No! You can by a Springfield any day. A defender plus is rare and the perfect gun for carry. Get new springs for the Colt and enjoy.

I would do it. Quickly.

A gun like the Defender is so far behind the curve for a modern carry gun as to be useless to me personally.

The TRP is solid example of a full size 1911.

Any 1911 with a barrel less than 4 1/4" in length is for suckers.

His gun is better than yours.

Oh yeah I'd make that deal. The Defender Plus has all of the drawbacks; a shorter slide to help make the gun less reliable, and a longer grip to make it more difficult to conceal. They're "rare" for a reason, just like Yugos are rare for a reason...I'd make that trade all day long, and I am a Colt fanboy

Agree. Keep the Colt. Remember, even a full size Springer will never be a Colt, ... ever!

On the springs, yeah, I swapped out the Colt factory recoil assembly for the superior EGW 'captured' recoil unit. A hundred rounds thru it at the range, it ran hiccup-free and the recoil-impulse was noticeably smoother. Happy happy.

That's what all the hard-core 1911 dudes at our range run. Man, if they even spy a dude shootin' a Springer - or gawd-forbid, some off-brand roscoe from some strange Asian country where the food they eat smells like people's feet - good gawd they'll dog ya.

I’m a Colt fanboi, and I would do that trade without thinking twice. It’s not that your Colt sucks, at all. The TRP is just so much more refined and will be fit way better.

I like Colts, but the Defender Plus is probably the least desirable 1911 configuration ever made to me.

I’d trade as well. That’s with most of my firearms though. I like to cycle through and shoot new things too much, only have a couple “never trade/sell” toys.
