Looking for a longslide 10mm for some hunting and general shooting.  Glock 40mos, Iver Johnson Eagle xl, Kimber Ls target (though I've had the Kimber curse before), etc?  Trying to keep it under a grand but we'll see.  Ability to handle full power loads a plus.

Any thoughts.

Thanks.

I have a Glock 40 MOS and love it.  Handles full power ammo just fine.  That should easily fit your needs.

Can't go wrong with the Glock 40. Trigger is gtg out of the box, but can easily be upgraded if that is your thing. Readily accepts an optic like the Trijicon RMR. Easily under $700 OTD. Spend the extra $300 on ammo. Federal makes a Trophy Bonded bullet that easily does double duty for 4 and 2 legged critters.

RIA "Big Rock." Great gun and it's much more comfortable to shoot than my son's Glock. He owns both.

Les Baer has a new 10mm Long slide.

As an owner of a couple different Glock 10mm (among other glocks) and a few .45acp Les Baers, if I were to buy a Long 10mm, I’d probably opt for the Les Baer 10mm over just about any other 10mm.

Glocks are cool and all... ALOT of high power bullets in a little package and a red-dot equipped 40MOS would be a great hunting companion. But their .45 and 10mm frames are friggin bricks. They feel like bricks. Their as heavy as a brick, They look like bricks. The only thing they don’t have in common like bricks is that a Glock rattles more than a brick when you shake it.

If you can swallow the price, get the Bear 10mm

I have the Glock 41MOS (45acp) with a 10mm drop in barrel.  Its a tad smaller than the 40 (0.6" shorter and slide is as thin as the 9mm models), but the drop in barrel is threaded and at least as long as the 40 barrel.  So you don't lose any precious FPS, but the gun is a bit more portable.

Don’t trust Les Baer Pricing if your actually interested. There are 3 or 4 known LB dealers that are a couple hundred dollars cheaper than Bear’s advertised pricing.

CJ @ 1911heaven is one, call and talk to him. Good dude. “Cheap” Bears.

Remington R1 longslide hunter  These are nice guns that get overlooked because of Remingtons other pistol lines.

Ruger 1911's are nice but not longslide. Ruger Super Redhawk might be the strongest 10mm.

I have a G40 and like it alot.

Fwiw, several stores have the Glock 41 mos (10 round ban state model) for $470.  At that price, you can get the gun, the 10mm barrel, a 10mm mag, a pack of 13 round 45acp mags, and a red dot all for under a grand.

You know I've been looking at these but it seems like it's 50/50 love or hate.  You either get a good one or not.  Some early issues with frame cracking from too low a recoil spring.

What barrel are you using? I inquired at a couple local shops about doing just this exact thing with a 41? I was told it is not possible as the slide profile where the barrel exits at the muzzle is a different diameter than the 21 and drop in barrels for 10mm would not fit.

I believe this is the USA one and this is the austrian one, both in the $470 range. I special ordered my barrel from kkm a while back.  While I had them on the phone, they said it was a somewhat popular request and would be adding it to their website to purchase directly.

If you`re going to be using this gun for hunting I would say get something bigger like .40-Super or .460 Roland.  200 grain .40 at 1400 FPS or 230 grain .45 at 1400 FPS in a semi-auto is pretty awesome.

Says the Glock is heavy and then recommends a pistol that, when empty, weighs more than the Glock fully loaded.

Here are the 10mms I own:

G40
Witness Steel
Witness Poly
1911
6" Javelina
G20

The XDM is what gets me excited because I love my XD45.   The Glocks work great, but feel like 2x4s.  Witness feel great, but I had to send one back for being a jamomatic before I got a good one

Not to mention, the Gen4 Glocks come with a set of replaceable backstraps. The large-frame Gen4 10mms & 45s are a lot less 'bricky' in the grip than prior generations.

I handled both of those today. They feel fantastic. Great balance. Odd that SA doesn't cut a pic rail on their large dust covers.

They do have a nice plate under the RMR that blends the slide sides up to the RMR and includes an integral rear sight.

That plate is trijicon and is the standard 1911/rmr solution.

I wonder if they left the rail off to discourage jack lighting deer, or the perception that it will be done. I know some states have laws against hunting with lights attached to firearms. Even at noon. Or maybe it's significantly stronger.

I'm rockin the always on non adjustable trijicon RMR on my G41.  Its plenty visible in any light I've tried it in.  You have to buy an extra $10 plate to put the trijicon on a glock MOS.  Its required for it to be water tight or some crap.
If you aren't set on the trijicon, the burris fastfire 3 is really nice for the money.  You can change the battery without taking it off the gun and the bezel/frame is less beefy than the trijicon.

I've got a Delta Point old original on a 7-30 waters contender pistol.  Not sure how the pro compares but I think it was a 1 moa dot.  Killed a couple hogs and a doe with it.  I'm a big fan of trijicon triangle reticles but the rmr might be much different with that.

That triangle covers a lot of the animal, especially past 30 yards, Id rather have a small 1-2 moa dot.

I zero on the tip. Actually probably going with the Delta Point pro as the tinted glass on the rmr seems like a poor choice for low light hunting.

I doubt I would target shooting, but in the dark woods it would be a different story.  Delta Point Pro ordered with the 7.5 moa triangle and some 1/3 cowitness sights.  Plus I've got that 7" kkm barrel coming.

Did you seriously blast a squirrel with a 12ga?  I'm surprised there's anything left of him.

I did notice that my RMR is tinted.  At first I thought it would bother me, but I don't even notice it anymore.
