Thinking of getting a new .22 pistol.

I already have a Ruger MkIII 22/45 threaded that I've done some work to. Works fine but being left handed, the safety isn't the best for me. I'm NOT considering a MkIV as the safety is (hinged) backwards.

I thought about maybe a conversion kit for my GLOCK 19 or Beretta 92. Problem is, IF you can find a kit in stock for the gen5 G19, it doesn't come with a threaded barrel, which is a must, and I don't want to spend another $100+ for a threaded barrel. Same problem with the Beretta kit.

I hate the M&P series so their .22 is pretty much out.

The S&W Victory is out as well due to the single sided safety.

Against my better judgement, I've actually been considering the Walther P22 or Ruger SR22, which I believe are both threaded and just need an adapter.

Any others I might be overlooking? Am I better served biting the bullet, so to speak, and forking over the money for a conversion kit and threaded barrel for the G19 or 92?

Have you considered the new Taurus TX 22?  Full size, 16 round mags, ambi safety and comes with a threaded barrel.

The GSG 1911 style pistols might be an option too. Those have threaded barrels and ambi safeties.

I've actually heard good things about the SR22.

No, I don't think I would ever consider a Taurus.

I had a GSG before and got rid of it. Don't like 1911's.

Sorry. You seem to picky to help.

If you were reasonable I'd say look at the MKIV, S&W Victory or Browning Buckmark.

The ruger sr22 is an excellent little pistol. Never had a jam in thousands of rounds.  The trigger is just okay.

It seems like the next move should be a Browning Buckmark.

I already have a Beretta 92. It’d be foolish to buy a whole new gun when I could buy a conversion kit and threaded barrel.

I know, right? I’ve owned a Buckmark. Same problem as the Ruger and S&W: wrong sided safety for me.

I picked up a S&W Victory as an inexpensive suppressor host.  I was pleasantly surprised by how well it shot and how much I like it now.

I mounted a FastFire on an OuterImpact mount.  There seems to be a decent  amount of add ons.

You might want to give it a second look.

Negative. Single sided safety and I’m left handed.

Agree with the previous posters that mentioned the Buckmark.

Also for consideration:
Ruger Single Six?
S&W Mod 41

Yeah that eliminates about everything.

Have you considered a Smith & Wesson 617 revolver.  10 rounds, no safety issues, very accurate.  I mounted a red dot and it shoots like a rifle.

Several reviews are up all the ones I saw were favorable eats up even crappier .22 ammo, shoots well suppressed, we'll have to wait and see about longterm durability but it looks quite promising.

The conversion kit with an extra threaded barrel is about the same price as buying the entire pistol. I never thought I would read on this website it’s foolish to buy another pistol. But good luck in your search for your next pistol

Which is why I specifically mentioned it in the OP.

At any rate, I decided to order the Beretta kit and threaded barrel since the Advantage Arms gen5 G19 kits are unobtanium.

FYI: Im left handed and Im getting rid of the Browning Buckmark.  The Buckmark has a very low action, so low that my thumbs tend to block/deflect the ejecting brass back into the action, 1-3 times a mag and jams the pistol. I also had the same problem with the Colt Woodsman and the S&W 422.  Im thinking of buying Mark4 or Victory myself

Since my thread got bumped I figure I might as well post another update.

I ended up getting an M&P 22 Compact as well. POI shifts too much with a suppressor attached to be useful in that regard, but I really like it. Very good, usable ambi safety. Fits good in the hand. Only shot 200 rounds through it but no malfunctions and pretty accurate. Put a Dawson Precision fiber optic front sight on it.

I think the Ruger MkIII 22/45 with its mono-construction (?) upper will remain my choice for any suppressed shots.

SR22 is a good time. Mine has a decent trigger and has been 100% running different ammo. (Barring crappy ammo )
Easy take down, good sights and a pic rail underneath.

ETA: I built this for my wife EYEOUT-15

If you get the Buckmark it’s perfect out of the box, except the takedown is a little hard.

The Rugers are great but need a Volquartson trigger kit to make them the ultimate 22 pistol. If the trigger is left stock it’s decent but not great.
The takedown is simple and easy. You can’t go wrong with a Ruger.

The S&W Victory is a hoe hum gun.
It’s decent, but you are going to get a mediocre gun.
Takedown is about like the Buckmark, not to hard but not simple as pie either.

This is what I have experience with, and here is a picture for proof.
I have also a Mark IV Hunter and a Mark III Hunter.

The 92 conversion kit looks like there's plenty of barrel hanging out of the slide if you have the tools to thread it

Good idea skipping the S&W .22 compact. Nice, well made, well laid out pistol but the most inaccurate .22 I’ve ever shot. Probably just mine. Will likely be going back to S&W.

Well, since you asked for opinions:

Taurus TX22. I bought one and am also left handed.

What I like:
  1. It's full size. You will be hard-pressed to find a better feeling .22lr pistol in your hand.
  2. It's affordable. $350ish
  3. It comes with 2 - 16rd magazines, a speed-loader, a threaded barrel (with adapter)
  4. It is striker fired! It comes apart exactly like your other pistols.
  5. The trigger is surprisingly really good.
  6. Ambi controls. (Mag release / safety)

What I don't like:
  1. The factory sights are pretty bad. Lakeline has some good replacements as well as a red-dot mount.
  2. No hardcase.
If you haven't shot one - you should, then make your decision.

I just ordered my 6 month old a Colt/Walther 1911 .22 Rail Gun for when she gets older. I’ve never had one but thought I should buy her one anyway.
