Except for the grips it looks like my 4 inch 1980s vintage Security Six.

ETA: Damn fine guns, and WILL TAKE A STEADY DIET OF FULL HOUSE MAGNUM LOADS, all day long. Love mine.

S.S. 6", it's older than many on this board
If Ruger had a brain in their head they would bring the Security and speed six back
More refined than my buddies GP100 but still built for 357 all day

Thanks Everyone!  I have a couple of Ruger semi-auto pistols and a single-six.  I don't know anything about the double action revolvers Ruger makes.  The person selling this one with the holster and ammo wants $225.00 for it.  Is that a reasonable price?

If you don't buy it, ask if he'll ship to my FFL, or how much extra that would be.  Those might also be Herret grips, which are kinda neat.

lol yeah that’s a good price. Hard to go wrong with any of the old American iron for that money.

Ruger Security Six with Herrett grips. From the looks of the grips it’s an early hump back model.

$225 is a steal.

Looks like early low back Security Six. Nice revolver for the price. Finding current grips for the low back can be challenging, but still available.

As a fellow Utah If you don't want it, let me know and I will buy it, or buy it from you  My first 357 was a security six circa 1975 in Cedar City while attending Southern Utah University.

What's the difference between a low back and a high back?  What should I be looking for?  Thanks

The first 150,000 or so Security Sixes had a different grip profile than the later guns.  Sometimes call low backs or hump backs.  The later guns profile was much more like a Smith square butt.  Notice that the grip on the early guns flares out a bit on the bottom end.  Later guns didn't have that.  The change came in the mid 151 series.

Grips for the early guns are a pain to find.  They can be had (ebay is the best source) but selection and style is limited and the price is typically high.  To the best of my knowledge neither Hogue nor Pachmyhr ever made grips for the early guns.  Not sure Hogue was even around back then.  The grips on your gun are Herretts.  I had a set of those eons ago but found them too large for my small hands and the checking was very sharp.

Wow!  Thanks for that response.  The serial number on this one is 150-13xxx.  Based on the info, this is a low back model?

Yes, very early one at that.  First year production.

Ruger was a bit crazy with the names of certain models , there always seems to be exceptions .

Good solid guns that command a decent price and some demand on the used market, you did quite well price wise.

As others have said , finding grips can be dicey if the ones you have don't fit you well.

The triggers , while not horrible , are usually a bit heavy . Aftermarket spring kits are reasonable and easy to install. They would be available at Brownells , Midway or Midsouth and usually cost $12 to $18 as I remember. Usually the kits have several spring weights . Lighter is best for a light trigger but too light might not be reliable
with all primers. Test fire before counting on the gun for self defense.

I know I am on the wrong board but I favor S&W revolvers because of slightly better triggers and a balance that I favor But the OP has got himself a decent gun at a great price.

A decent 357 revolver is something every gun guy or girl should have. The ability to shoot everything from wimpy 38 target loads up to and including heavy 357 loads covers lots of use

I would say you are going to have some issues with it based on the pics. I'll buy it from you. Nice score
