Another military M9 question.

Which lanyard did/does the military use with the M9?

I have seen the simple neck cord design and the bungie/coiled design.

Just curious exact NSN/maker/model to get one for my M9.

Thanks

You're trying to put together a military correct M9 w/ accessories.  When lanyards weren't available,  but required by the commander, boot laces and other cords have been used, including 550 cord.

If you're under 35, the simple answer is join the National Guard and you'll get issued all this stuff.

We just used the same ones the .45 had, updated in nylon.

Keep in mind your MOS determines your weapon, the average soldier doesn't automatically get a service pistol, and a lot of times as the mission requirements dictate, you get an M16A- or M4.

As an MP, you could get almost any Infantry weapon up to M2 or M17 on a pintle mount. The average MP squad is more heavily armed than an Infantry squad, and when you do Area Guard or securing a checkpoint, you become a battle station. Death Blossom is a reality out in the middle of nowhere at a road junction. In modern warfare, a "front line" is a Hollywood anachronism.

At a front gate in Conus, black issue leather no cord was our mode. Field cap and armband. After about two weeks most of us had our own stuff scoured from flea markets, mail order or pawn shops. Still have most of it. That means a lot of gear used during modern conflicts these days is commercial off the shelf, and likely paid out of pocket, too.  That's been happening since, well, soldiers went into the field.

It’s unit dependent. SF doesn’t use them bc they’re fucking stupid and get in the way. Regular army usually does a unit buy on the Blackhawk ones. Or whatever one the supply guy or XO thinks look cool and are cheap.

Tirod is gay bc he’s an MP, so he probably tied his off with anal beads, but is still bent on wowing us with his wall of irrelevant text about the never-were exploits of the Military Police and their pintle mounted M17’s(?).

Can you please go back and erase everything except the first sentence and last paragraph. No reason to put out false information to a potentially impressionable audience

I can see needing all that firepower when Lieutenant Bootstrap's wife Karen lights you up at the front gate for not saluting her blue window decal, but what's the best combat loadout for pulling over E-3s hitting 7 MPH in the Commissary parking lot?

It depends on the Unit.  Anything from Viet Nam era 1911 lanyards to 550 chord to commercial lanyards and everything in between has been used.

The one I seen the military uses is the Blackhawk lanyard. In old times, even right today, they used this:

Along with the green holster with the cleaning rod:

Branch dependent.

Lanyards were mandatory for all Navy sentries after the MA2 Mayo incident and we use a coiled one with qr buckle like this one.
