| For the guys doing the late builds, looks like Caspian has stopped making their mainspring housing. Are you guys able to find them on the secondary market, or are you going with a different MSH like the S&A and then adding the serrations? |

Got my first parts in for my first MEUSOC (variant 4/5). I am so excited, I have been trying to start this project for many years. I also ordered a Caspian receiver this morning.
Parts not pictured are with the former 2112 that will be doing the work. He was at PWS when they built the last run of meusocs before the Colt CQBP came in, so it will reflect the configuration of that (Caspian frame, Springfield slide). Attached File |

Caspian frame came in, smith started working and sent me some in process pics thusfar. So excited to have this project started finally after years of lusting after a meusoc. The smith was at PWS during the final build run of the pistols before the Colt A1s came in, so it will be built to those standards. The only thing that will be off will be the mag release upon advice of the 2112 doing the work, I got a wilson extended for it. A few days ago I was digging through an old box and came across a Caspian frame that I bought about six years ago with a MEUSOC build in mind. Of course I had to check to see if this thread was still running strong after finding the frame, and I'm happy to see it is.
Around the same time I bought the Caspian I also bought a Kimber Custom II and sent it to Dave Berryhill for an ICQB build. I didn't even know Dave had passed away until about six months after the fact and my Kimber was never recovered. Needless to say I had a real bad taste in my mouth thinking about MEUSOC builds. Fast forward and I'm ready to complete the Caspian project that I never fully started. This week I picked up a SA slide, next up frame parts. Here she is today -  Anyways, can't wait to post the finished build, hopefully in the next couple of months. Cheers folks - hope you all have a Merry Christmas. |

For a variant 2, I think I am a little confused on the front sight. They would have been soldered on, but what exact sight am I searching for? Dual crimp or stake on? |

Been kicking a MEUSOC build around in my head for a while. Been looking at base guns for the past two days and these two have stuck out to me a little. My two biggest hurdles are Springfield and 45acp. I KNOW, I KNOW!
First one is an older pre Brazil, second is a blued Brazil. I’m digging the older. Also watching a few park’d loaded models. My real hang up is I could have a Colt for less than $100 more and possibly one chambered in 9mm. So there’s the dilemma do I buy what I want and what I’d like to shoot, make an improper clone (inspired by) and shunned by you guys but completely functional and practical for me. Or do I stuck it up, do it correctly and hope I learn to completely love it? |

So, with two not correct pistols, I say build one that you'll shoot, then later on if you want a true clone, build one with the correct parts. For my build, I've seen SA slides w/out front serrations and the logo forward, but I haven't seen them on Caspian frames. I can't prove that none existed, but I can't prove any did exist either. Anyways, folks seem to accept Berryhill's builds as legit clones, even with Colt commercial slides. Build what you want Man. |

| IN response to Nape: Stake on, the dual crimp came along because the stake on can come off under use. I guess the duel crimp fails too, and it takes a special tool to install. This is why the front stake on sight gets silver soldered. |
