Per Hilton's review, I noticed the grip circumference under the triggerguard is smaller on the "as-sold" Compact than on the "as-sold" Full-Size model which we know comes with the medium grip module. Is this to say the Compact model only allows one grip module? I'd like to compare the Full-Size small module with whatever they are calling this Compact module (from the factory) EDIT: Per Ayoob's review (below), the compact comes from Springfield with the small module already. Medium and large would be an additional purchase. As a note, I want to point out that the Echelon 4.0C Compact 9mm — like all Echelon variants — features an interchangeable backstrap system on the grip module. The pistol comes with three backstraps included — small, medium and large — for customizing the grip to your hand. Each of the backstraps also features an integrated armorers tool. Also of note is the fact the 4.0C comes with a “small” grip module, while larger versions are also available. And lastly, per Hilton's review (damn, I feel like a Fanboi) . . . he confirms the Echelon Compact with this included Small grip module actually measures slightly smaller (1/16") in diameter than the venerable Glock 48. As an owner of a G48, I find this to be a big deal. I believe I would gladly trade up for the additional five rounds and a better optics mounting system. |

What gets me is that they don't seem to sell a grip module that's compatible with the manual safety.

Well I caved in a ordered one. I was able to find a Safariland duty holster that will work for me in my role, so I figured why not. I was very impressed with the full sized I shot when they released them and said I would pick one up when they made a 4 inch version. TXPO |

I am on the fence about the Echelon though. It just felt so good in my hand at the LGS and the ergonomics are just a step above the XD series (which I'm a huge fan of), but I want to see what happens with the lineup, especially the manual safety versions (and support of those), before I even consider getting another 9mm. |

Sig made the same claims when the 320 was released and took them several years to get any of slides and barrels out. Far longer for the conversion kits. It was at least 4 or more years before any vendor started making different frames for them. There is at least one vendor making aluminum frames for the Echelons. So far Springfield is doing better job at that stuff than Sig did at the release of the 320. Now if they can just get Safariland on board with some different duty holster options LE would be more apt to try them out. The COG or the modular systems are kinda gimmicky, but at this point the value of them has shown through with the 320. You can buy the FCU stand alone for the 320 and 365 and build one from the ground up they way you want. I don't see any reason why Springfield can't or wont go down the same road with the Echelon. I mean the platform is only a year old. The 320 wasn't doing shit for the first year it was out, except going off when dropped. ![]() TXPO |

I picked up a 4.0 yesterday. Found one at my local shop below msrp. Very comfortable in the hand. I also stopped by Cabela’s and picked up a vortex defender st. They were on sale for $179 and I had $125 in gift cards. I’ll be interested to see how it holds up. Now for the ten business day waiting period here in WA… |

The larger mags will fit fine (it’s the same mag body, just longer), but you’ll have a gap between the baseplate and the bottom of the compact grip. Same thing you see with Glocks, SIGs, and any other pistol when you use a full size mag in a compact grip. |

Same setup as my full size. Don't have all the manufacturers in front of me, but can list if anyone's interested |

Picked mine up today. Mounted a red dot and modified the holster. The red dot location in relation to the belt clip was a little too low. The red dot would hit my belt before the trigger guard would lock into the holster. Used a heat gun to soften the kydex and moved the lock in area out about 3/8 " upwards. Dot no longer hits my belt and pistol locks in perfectly. No parts have arrived yet so can't do my add ons yet. Will get to function test and fine tune the dot sighting. It's boresighted at 15 yards now. The test target from the factory shows a 1 in group at 10 meters |

Took her out yesterday. Son and I function tested and sighted in 5 pistols. Using Blazer Brass 115gr @ 15 yards, groups were 1" range. Ragged 1 hole.Zero malfunctions with 150 rounds. Trigger and comp have arrived. Son loved the grip feel. We both wear medium sized gloves. He carry's a Hellcat Pro but likes the Echelon better. Springfield has a winner. Being a lefty, I love the full ambi controls. This will be my primary carry going forward |

For anyone who has both models, does the compact grip module work with the full size slide? It looks like the dust cover(?) around the recoil spring on the full size slide is long enough to interface with the compact grip module, but it would be great if someone could confirm that. That would allow you to assemble a “long slide” configuration with the compact grip. On the flip side, if they offer a commander-style grip module - 4.0C slide with 17-round length grip - you could interchange the compact and full size slides on the same grip. Edit: Apparently it works just fine! https://youtube.com/shorts/RUJqhVWVPls?si=K1c8xQFPMVbETAvw |
| Anyone having any issues with the 18 rd mags getting stuck in the mag well? I just watched a youtube video and the youtuber mentioned while using the 18 rd mag it gets stuck in the mag well, over time could break the ejector? Question is has anyone had this issue with 10 or 15 rd mags? |
|
The issues they are having is running the full size echelon 18 round magazines in the compact. There is nothing to prevent over insertion of the magazines. The compact 18 rounder have an extension and it stops at the bottom of the grip. The full size magazines stick out slightly when used in the compact. Because the bottom of the magwell is used as the stop, longer magazines can be inserted past their intended stopping point possible causing issues and damage. The sig p330 experienced the same problem when using larger magazines in a smaller model. This is a weak point with both the 320 and the echelon. With the echelon it can create malfunctions and could damage the ejector. I’m not sure why manufacturers don’t test for this especially when they have different size magazines that work across a model line. I know it’s not limited to the modularity aspect, because Ruger RXM has magazine over insertion stops. TXPO |

But yeah, on the XDM/Hellcat lines they have grip sleeves that are supposed to be used with the larger size magazines in the more compact models. I know it’s not limited to the modularity aspect, because Ruger RXM has magazine over insertion stops. The over-insertion of full-size magazines in compact models is an issue that is hardly unique to the P320 and Echelon and is something to keep in mind with most semi-auto pistols as far as I have been told. From what I've gathered from Glock owners, later generation Glocks have an over-insertion tab molded on the magazine. If the RXM has over-insertion stops wouldn't that be because it is designed to work with the over insertion stop molded on the stop of the P-Mag/Glock magazines? And to Springfield's credit, their XDM/Hellcat manuals have notes/warnings saying something along the lines of only inserting the magazine until it clicks into place and to not slam or jam magazines into the magwell. I would be surprised if the Echelon manual didn't have something similar to that in it. |

What's the difference between the following 2 sights? 2 different prices for the pistol.. Sights: Tritium 3-Dot $630 for the pistol Sights: Tritium / Luminescent Front, Tactical Rack U-Dot Rear $596 for the pistol One is more expensive than the other. I was under the impression the sights are the same on the 4.0 series? |

It’s right there in the description of the sights - one has three Tritium night sight dots (three Tritium vials = more expensive), while the other has a single Tritium dot in the front and a white (printer / painted) U-shaped notch in the rear. |

I want a 4.0 grip module and the compensated 4.5 slide…and a threaded barrel for it as well. A G49 of sorts. I guess the cheapest method is buy a comped 4.5, then a 4.0 frame and mags. Though the new Aimpoint Glock has my attention, but unlikely I’ll see a 49 version available for a year or so. |
|
I own two of them, but I gotta say . . . unfortunately I'm now going to hold off until 2026. The only thing that could make this pistol better for me is that A-Cut mounting system for the Aimpoint COA. A geniune improvement over this already fantastic Echelon ingenunity. |

Spent a little too much around Xmas but I'm in for a 4.0 and the new 3.5 Prodigy. would love to see a flux system built out for the Echelon platform also. I'd sell my 320 Raider X if one came out for these. Not a fan of suppressing the 320 and even with an Apex trigger in it, it's still a vague garbage trigger. |
|
I finally got a chance to hold a 4.0 today and compare it to my full size. was really surprised by how different it felt balance wise. as much as I'm trying to hold out and just buy parts and reuse my COG, I may end up buying the whole gun and put the newer COG Back as a spare. |

How about slide thickness? I'm really interested in this pistol but I don't want another PDP or APX1 level of thickness. |

| Loving this gun. Put my Vortex on it but it kept switching off about every 7 to 10 rounds. Took it off and put my Delta Point Pro on it. Have about 600 rounds through it without a single issue. It’s become my daily carry. Wanting to pick up a full-size now. |

After much debate I went ahead and purchased the compact to go with my full size. they started a promotion on 2/1/25 that includes several mags, a crimson trace RDS. Didnt get my threaded barrel (I'm ordering it separately) and will be looking for an FDE grip. I took my COG out of my full size and put the new COG in a ziplock bag for a spare. Mrs Rudder got a hellcat that came loaded with optic, light/laser combo. It was the only time I've bought a gun that she didn't say anything

Finally got to the range and put some rounds through compact. I don't like the "small" grip module. My full size came with the medium and I swapped it out for the large. I think the large is what I'm going to need. The small, while it felt OK holding it, under recoil it's harder for me to keep my grip and rubbed a blister on my hand. Didn't have the problem with medium or large - Large for me seems to be a better fit (although the rough texture I could give or take). Just my observation coming from the full size. |
