The short answer is yes, it is a good gun, with a few quirks and some break in.
I purchased one last week after selling my g44. My primary goal was an optics capable training pistol. There is simply no way to mount an optic to the plastic slide of the G44, and my duty pistols are all optic equipped. I'd rather train with optics in a pistol that's close enough, than an exact match without.
What I found is that the P322 is perhaps the most reliable pistol of this full sized trainer genre that I've tried, the close second being the Taurus tx22. Close enough that I wouldn't mind owning either of them. The Sig is about $70 more expensive.
Sig wins however on mag capacity. It comes with 2 20rd mags that actually work with, get this, 20rds loaded in them. 25rd mags are also available. I bought one yesterday for $29, but have not tried it yet.
Some may complain about the manual safety, but understand, like most of these pistols that are not glock, these are Single action hammer fired pistols, with a hidden hammer designed to mimic the form of a striker fired gun. One is essentially carrying the pistol cocked and locked. The safety is well placed and easy to use on par with 1911s. It is very positive, but not stiff.
As other double stack rimfire pistols, magazine loading is critical to reliability. Use the supplied tool. Load one round, advance, load next round, continue until full. You must ensure that the rim of the round on top is in front of the round beneath it. If you don't you will get rim lock. This is common to all of the pistols of this type. Once you get this down, the pistol is extremely reliable. I had zero malfunctions in 500rds except for a couple of dud primers on cheap bulk pack. Turning the cartridge and running it back through and those fired too.
As to leading, yes, a got some streaks of lead at the edge of lands and grooves in the first 100rds. I cleaned it out with Hoppes elite bore cleaner, and a bore snake. Took 6 passes. The next 100 rds, the leading was greatly reduced, and the next 100rds it was non existent. I take this as a break in issue. My pistol was made Jan 2023. Ammo used Armscor .22, Aguila bulk pack, Federal Champion. I did not need to use particularly extraordinary cleaning methods.
The pistol comes with excellent fiber optic sights adjustable for windage and elevation. There is no need or desire to purchase aftermarket sights. The rear sight assembly is removed to mount and RMSc type optic. I went with a Sig Romeo zero.
I did have some initial problems with the Romeo Zero and the supplied steel protective shroud. I could not get the torque quite right and the battery connection was cutting in and out. I think too much torque slightly warps the plastic body of the optic and interrupts the battery connection. I remounted without the cage, and it works fine at 8in/lb on the screws. I'm fine with this, as this is primarily a training and range pistol. I'm not banging it in and out of the cruiser every day. I do not think I would buy this optic for a duty pistol and much prefer holosun. The backup sight notch on the Romeo 0 matches perfectly with the front sight.
When the optic blinked out due to my poor mounting, I was able to go immediately to Irons and kept banging steel until the mag was empty and I figured out what was going on.
The pistol also comes with a threaded barrel and suppressor adapter in the box if you want to go that route. You do not need to buy a new barrel like glock. A side note is that the G44 with Fiber optic sights and suppressor ready barrel was the same price as Sig.
The bottom line is I like this pistol. It is accurate, reliable, and cheap to shoot. It gives me the training experience I'm looking for and is way more reliable than my G44 was. It also holds twice or more as many rounds in factory, not aftermarket mags. How Taurus and Sig figured out higher cap mags and Glock can't is beyond me. How Sig and Taurus figured out that people who shoot optics mounted pistols, might also want optics on their trainer, and Glock can't, is also a mystery. This pistol has a lot of features for the money. I do not regret buying it.
