Between the modern sig p210 and a semi custom 1911 like dan wesson ect.  Which would you choose? and why.
Just a range gun.  Would not carry.

I have both and the 210a target is just awesome. I have a red dot on my and it is an incredible tack driver smooth as butter and smooth as silk. When I want to make me feel better about my shooting ability and shoot at 25-50 yards I take out the Sig 210 every time. My 1911's are great as well and Dan Wesson makes some nice 1911's. I have a Pointman 9mm and a Colt gold cup trophy in 9mm as well. Plus some .45 1911's.....there is something just special about the Sig 210A....some issues in the past have been broken recoil springs...DPMS makes a replacement and I use that

Funny, I've been debating the same thing recently. I love 1911's and Sigs but was leaning towards the P210A because I already have a couple of 1911's (in 45ACP) but the Sig would be completely different then anything else I already have. I got to finger fuck both a P210A Standard and Target at the LGS and really liked the Target model.

That said, the capacity of both suck, especially the 210. In this day and age there is no reason to get stuck with 10 or less rounds on a full size 9mm. We may get stuck with some kind capacity restriction soon enough but why limit ourselves now? That's why I started looking at other options...

Obviously you have the various 2011 type pistols. Nice but stupid expensive (and the mags are stupid expensive too). Dan Wesson's DWX could be the ticket but I'm loosing hope in that thing ever coming out and even if/when it does, I don't guinea pig or beta test brand new designs. I'll leave that to others so even if it came out tomorrow, I'd wait a while and see how it works out for others before spending any of my money on one.

So then I started thinking, what's so special about the DWX? Its basically a CZ Shadow 2 with a 1911 trigger, slide and controls. Well what's wrong with the standard Shadow 2? Short answer is... nothing. CZ's are a proven design and very popular with the Comp guys for their accuracy and reliability. Mags for the Shadow 2 are easy to find and reasonable priced. If your willing to  spend a little more and get one of the higher end models like the Accushadow or S2 Orange, you get a gun with tuned triggers, fitted slides and 1911 style barrel bushing. They can also be converted to SAO if you prefer or you can go with one of the Tactical Sport models (TSO or TS2) that come in SAO. I'm leaning S2O myself.

Held a TS2 Orange over the weekend.

Very nice.

The dealer already had it sold... For $1000 over list price.

There is a sucker born every minute.

Between the two I'd probably get the Sig because I like uncommon guns, and everyone has a 1911. Parts and magazines will be harder to find and more expensive, but there are so many people making 1911s that you'll be able to get one down the road for sure. Sig likes to discontinue stuff on a whim, usually their rifles but they did it with the P239 and P227 a couple years ago. I don't think the P210 is a huge volume seller for them so I'd snag one while they are still available.

Then again, 8 rounds of 9mm or 8 rounds of .45. Kind of takes away from the capacity advantage of a 9mm. But for your use that doesn't matter.

I sold my Springfield 1911A1 Mil Spec to help fund a Sig P210A Standard.

Depends if you drink beer in mug or wine from a stem glass with your pinky out. I like a plain 5" 1911 in .45. 'Merica!

1911.  Nothing about the P210 is attractive to me.

Every gun collection needs a 1911 in the safe, followed by a 210, I have both. They each shoot great.
Get the one you can afford now, save for the next over time.

Same, but the opposite.

I prefer the P210 in every way, and I don't even like other Sigs.
