Bought a Shield Plus OR a few months ago.  After putting it through the paces - about 500 rounds of varied ammo, I get a red dot.  Sig Romeo X Compact enclosed, to be exact.  RMSc footprint and everything said it should be a PNP deal.

First issue was that none of the metric screws supplied with the dot worked.  Look in the S&W manual and it just said “mount the optic according to the manufacturer instructions”.  Thanks S&W for the great deal of info.  Internet search shows that S&W use 6/32 pitch.  I have those, clean everything up, mount and properly torque the screws.  Everything is sitting flush, and looks GTG.

Go to the range to zero and basically run out of elevation adjustment.  Windage is fine.  Groups are tight, so I know nothing is wiggling.  The problem is that it’s hitting about 5-6” high at 20 yards.

More searching on the internet and others are saying that S&W mills some slides not perfectly straight, for some reason, and it’s an issue.  Some have re-milled the slides to a different footprint or to correct the angle.  Fuck that.  The gun is OR, so I am not spending that much money to unfuck something that should have not left the factory like that.

The question - is there a $20 solution to shim the optic in a not bubba way to be able to trust it, or is the gun going back to S&W?
Amanda? Come on dude. That's probably not even her real name.

I did this for my 507K.  The K footprint should work with RMSc, but you might want to confirm should you go that route.

It is possible to shim, even with a 3d printed solution. Shadow systems and others use plastic shims that hold zero.

Problem is no one knows what dimensions are needed for your exact issue. Be more of a hassle to figure that out than it would be to just send it to get remilled.

Maybe theres a red dot out there with more adjustment that would be able to move up the extra 5 inches. I'm not sure which though.

Learning lesson to not buy that gun anymore. Either mill it or sell and buy something else.

The DPP adapter plates on Amazon work fantastic and are very inexpensive.

I have a DPP plate and a Holosun 507k on my plus. It works. I bought a Olight SE I impulse bought during their Black Friday sale and tried to mount it on the plus but it wouldn't sit flush. Its been a few years since i first mounted the Holosun but I think I remember having to persuade the DPP aluminum plate to fit flush. So I think my Shield Plus has messed up recoil post as well. I mounted the OLight on a Equalizer and it fit perfectly.
