Actually the "worn" looking Uberti of mine came to me as a 44-40 and had obviously seen LOTS of use in CAS. The bolt and hammer had been heavily modified so I replaced both then ordered and fitted the .44 Special cylinder. The finish was fairly worn, so I tried my hand at "antiquing" on it. It's funny that even with the old looking finish the revolver shines like chrome on all the places that rub in the holster. This because I carry it a lot around the place here and on my evening hikes which typically cover 3.5 - 4 miles. The NM Vaquero is also showing signs of wear and I've owned it for less than a year but it too gets carried a lot. I really, really like the shot of your 1866 and the two revolvers. Those '66's have class unmatched by any other lever as far as I'm concerned. Do you have any pictures showing a little more detail of how you rigged the sling on that rifle? I have a 20" '73 in .44 Special and I'd like some sort of sling for when I carry it hunting. |

Thank you, a decent block of quilted maple with a good figure isn't easily found locally, so when I found it I instantly pictured this stock for this rifle. This is just another obsessive part of my gun OCD. Just for me and some family.I don't do this for others,although I wouldn't mind if the money was right. I'm still surprised how well the wood stained. Sometimes you just get what it gives you and you can't tell how it will turn out till your there. Thanks again for the complements. |

I just acquired this pretty little number through a trade for a 91/30.
Anyone have thoughts on the 45 conversion kits for the Pietta Revolvers? I've seen/heard a lot about the Uberti ones. This is a Pietta Model 1858 New Army .44 Caliber Revolver.

Been a while I haven't posted here. But the news is, I moved permanently to the US of A. Yep. California (La Jolla). I gave myself this as a present - to congratulate myself that is - that I made it here at almost 50 years of age. It's never too late to be Free. US Firearms Artillery Model in .45LC. I really want a First Generation Colt in .44-40 with the 4 3/4 barrel. I saw one at the gun show, but it's a little out of my price range.

I just picked up a nice Ruger Bisley Vaquero (Original model) in .45 Colt. Apparently the color case hardening finish was wearing thin, so the previous owner sent it back to Ruger to do a full blue job on it:

Yup, although they probably should have called them Vaqueros instead of Blackhawks but it does continue a long Ruger traditional of terrible name choices. |

Well, they are not Vaqueros, as they have the tall front target blade and the adjustable rear sights. While not a Bisley grip, this is my flat-top .44 Spl. :
It's listed as a Blackhawk. The .44s are the only ones listed with the steel grip frames, but I believe the Lipsey's .45 convertible flat-tops have them, as well. |
