The M1153 I'm guessing is just Ranger T 147gr with a plain brass case?

Interesting they are going with 115gr ball instead of 124gr.

Why change things with a proven performer like the NATO 124 grain and go to 115 grain ?
Unless they are going mainly with the 147 grain for battle field use and the 115 grain for only training.
115 grain in the field will be a mistake in my opinion.

This is the first time I've heard of 124gr Ball referred to as a "proven performer", unless you mean "poor performer"; every single person I've spoken to that has used the round in defense or anger, has had strong things to say about it's ineffectiveness. 115gr won't be any better in terms of terminal ballistics, but maybe the numbers show people can put more lead into a target more quickly?

Maybe, using a 115 in the "new" truncated cone shape combined with a little more velocity will increase "effectiveness" somewhat. It cant hurt as the 124ball is marginal, like all FMJ rounds, including 45. They kill just fine but it takes a while unless you hit bone, CNS etc.

The Win. brown box stuff I was buying a year ago had crimped primers and just a date on head , also 115 flat trun flat tip and was kind of hot and shot great . Bought a new carton a week ago and it was 115 fmj rd tip and marked Win 9mm . I will not buy anymore .

I thought they studied truncated bullets versus ball years ago and found there wasn't much difference in (lack of) performance?

I havnt heard of an actual study. I have always read anecdotally that flat nose, truncated, SWC profile bullets do a little more damage as the sharp corner cuts flesh rather than squeezing through. Seems to work on paper anyway.

Personally, I have shot at car bodies and flat nosed bullets tend to glance off less at angles and penetrate more than FMJ round profile bullets.

"IF" the new 115gr TC Army load is better, it is probably only slightly better. But better is better.

124gr ball as a proven performer?!?

With that kind of rationale, I’ll bet you tried to register all your .45acp and 10mm pistols as Destrucrive Devices with the ATF... Lol.

I suspect that the JHP will only be issued to Military Police and conventional units deployed to combat zones will get the flat nose.

I actually think 9mm nato works just fine "needs to hit bone or cns" ummm yeah. Same as every other service caliber jhp.

I think a tc going fast would actually work pretty good around cars. A lot of time gate guards or mps or guys at check points only have a pistol.

Heavier bullets work better around auto glass though.

I have a box of theses and ran some through the chrony and got an average 10 shot velocity of 1192fps.

Just for reference the nato round typically goes 1200fps from service size guns

why not use a 147gr truncated cone ball round that's a ballistic match for the 147gr HP?

Maybe they considered it but realized that it has the least possible wounding capability. Or at least less than the 115 or 124. Or maybe it's .1 cent more expensive...
