I'd like to upgrade some of my 15 rounders to 17 rounders with the $15 kit that's out there.  Any ideas on how to mark these mags so I can tell them apart from my 15 rounders?

Ink marker on baseplate?

Electro pencil on body?

Mask off a section and spray paint a band on the body?

Ooooh I like the electropencil idea.  Think I might roll with that.

Silver marks the 17-rounders

Notice the baseplates also do have a dimple.

How'd you do that dimple?

--Edit-- OH you mean the extension base plates come with a dimple.  That's awesome, I didn't know that.

Not if you buy the upgrade kits for the 15 rounders.

I use a paint pen in a bright color to mark the back of the mag where the two extra witness holes would be on a factory 17 rounder.

Btw, these paint pens are great. I use them all the time for stuff like this. They seem to wear much better than ink.

Hmm, tempting.  What size drill bit did you use?

I tried. I couldn’t make much more than a dimple with my drill bits…including one specifically for metal. Just spun and spun and spun with zero progress.

I ended up engraving with my Dremel.

I only had 12 mags so when these went on sale, I bought 12 of them. No worries now, all my VP9 mags are 17rd mags now.

I used a centerpunch to mark where I wanted to drill and to keep the bit from wandering.  As far as bit size I just used whatever bit was closest to the size of the factory holes.
