I want to try and improve the small dark sights on the Tisas 1911A1 Service I recently bought.  My goal is to add dots or bars to help line up the sights better.

I bought this https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B000RNPGKO/   to do the job. I was going to just use a toothpick and apply dots and see how it turns out. I like to train for muscle memory for aiming in SD situations but for general target shooting it would be nice to have something more visible.

If you ever did this and have some suggestions (or warnings) for making it turn out decently I'd like to hear about them.

Toothpick is fine.  Try to keep the dot as round as possible.   I prefer blacked out rear sights.  I'll put a bright dot on the front.
If the dots are recessed,  you can also use a  crayon of your choice.  You'll have to reapply as needed.
