Does anyone know if people have to pass through metal detectors at the Statue of Liberty and the USS Intrepid? If yes is there at least a place to check a firearm for  someone carrying on LEOSA Credentials  on a trip to New York City.

If anyone in the legislature or administrative branch really gave a dam about stopping active shooters they would fix LEOSA and give it some teeth.  They need to make issuing the QRLEO ID mandatory and Federally issue the ID.

Next LEO and QRLEO must be exempt from ALL No Carry Zones. Not some of them - ALL of them from Federal Gun Free School Zones to private businesses open to the public. If the public can go in then the cops should be able to carry there to protect the public.

LEOSA needs to limit civil liability of officers and retired officers who engage an active shooter in progress.

On January 18, 2021, the “Executive Order on Protecting Law Enforcement Officers, Judges, Prosecutors, and Their Families” was signed.    (but nobody cares because the ID is made of unobtanium for most who qualify because its not  federally issued.)

suggest you call ahead and pack some multi use tools.   Ex: cheap mora knives and throw it away if you have to. Link  or a coin purse (coin sap), or Philips screwdriver, small hammer, socks with a can of coke inside, Lodge skillet, or whatever you can walk past with.

It’s been a few years since I went to the Statue of Liberty but yes there were metal detectors at the admission building you walk through as well as bag searches before getting onto the boat.

I don’t know if they have any place to lock up a firearm or how it would play out in regards to LEOSA.

Yes. Airport like security everywhere. I was there Christmas 2019.

I totally agree. Although the intent was good, you have a bunch of lay people creating the laws who have no experience within the content of a law they are trying to pass. Almost as if they were trying not to offend everyone

I've found that it doesn't hurt to call and speak to someone over security to ask what their policy is regarding LEO's carrying. I've never been to where you're going, but most people are pretty helpful in stating their policy regarding the manner.

Was asking for my brother who lives up north. He spoke to security and they told him they have no place to secure his pistol and no one not even LE are able to carry on grounds. He left it locked in his car for that part of the day and had no problems carrying everywhere else he went on the trip. Thanks for all the replies.

Things must have changed, when I went about 2006, They hooked me up, carried in, had an ID given and walked family through all detectors and tour well past points. All around DC, everything in except WH. Philly, same thing.

No. We don't need to exempt law enforcement officers from gun-free zones or anything else. That's a dumb move.

The smart move would be to exempt everyone from gun-free zones.

How ‘bout fuck all that?

Let everyone carry everywhere and make all LE subject to the same laws, same penalties.  No exceptions, no immunity.
