Anyone tried the Wilson Combat or Wolff spring kits? Did they result in noticeable improvement? Any light prime strike.

My Model 60 has a hammer mounted firing pin so the Apex kit with its replacement firing pin is ruled out.

I put one of the Apex kits in a 642.  Took the trigger pull from 12 to 9.

Hit or miss.  Will lower the pull but you may get light strikes.

Wolff springs were all the rage back in the 80's and 90's.  I've tried several in J frames and had much the experience here, where on some they worked great, and on others I would have light strikes and had to go back to the original hammer spring but still used the Wolff return spring.

Then again, my sampling is less than 7 J frames in total, so YMMV.  Now I just dry fire the heck out of them to smooth them out, if they are really bad I might stone or file a little bit too without messing with the springs.

I put Wolf sets in our two 642.  Great improvement in trigger pull and have yet to have a light strike in 18 -20 years of use.

My 1990s 442 has a great trigger. My stainless 1980s Model 60 is terrible.

I’ve got a 60 of the hammer mounted firing pin vintage that was tuned with a Wolff kit and some light stoning it’s been reliable and has a very nice trigger pull.

Same results on my 442.  Apex kit is more than just buying Wolff springs, but no light strikes.

Big improvement for me.  I didn’t go super light in the hammer spring or the trigger return, but it was a big improvement.  No issues.

Same out a apex in my 442 and there was a dramatic improvement.

Another vote for APEX. Never had a problem with their kit.

Apex kit uses a longer firing pin. Only works in newer Jframes. Not for the old guns with hammer mounted firing pin

Power Custom makes an extended hammer nose firing pin, I have one in a model 60.

Put an APEX kit in my 642, have to say not a huge improvement. Trigger is a BIT lighter, but not worth the $.

I put a spring kit and a 6:40. Dropped the trigger pull down something tolerable.  I was too leery change out the mainspring though, would risk light primer strikes that way.

Wilson Combat (14lb rebound spring) and mainspring replacement in a Model 38, and an Apex kit with fp in a newer 642.

Both triggers dropped from about 12 to 9lbs.  No ignition problems.

Easy and noticeable upgrades for $15 to $30.

Use properly fitting quality screwdrivers / bits on that sideplate!
