I stopped by my FFL and they have an SP5 in stock. I took a picture of the bolt carrier group closed. Is this normal for it to have what appears to be a crack or is that just the way it supposed to be? If you look to the right edge you see a separation.

Your pic is pretty bad, but this is a common question so I know what you're referencing.

It's an intentional stress-relief cut.  You can read all about it here:  https://www.hkpro.com/threads/sp5k-bolt-carrier-cracking.506260/

Holy shit

You wouldn't believe me if I told you that I walked away from purchasing it because I thought it was a crack. The gun guy told me "yeah that's normal". I didn't believe him and I walked away from the deal. I plan on hopefully stopping by on the weekend and see if it's still there. I know there's never a dumb question but I feel like an idiot right now.

As a general rule HK’s QA/QC program is stellar, and something like a crack would never leave the factory.

Hopefully you can still pick it up.
