Hey all. I’ve wanted a Beretta 92 variant for ever now. I’ve looked at the 92fs, and M9, and M9A1. If you were in my position, which model would you go with, and why? I have no interest in the A3, cause I don’t want to spend $800+ on this gun. It would most likely be a home defense/range gun. I *might* carry it, but doubt I will. Any info is greatly appreciated! Thanks in advance.
Oh, and pics welcome too.

With your criteria I'd go 92a1.  Readily available right now at a decent price.  Removable front sight, rail for a light if you choose and the current batch are made in Italy.

Seems most logical. I liked the 92fs for nostalgia reasons (die hard, lethal weapon) but from what I’ve read, the A1 seems like an improvement in many ways.

Italian 92FS or 92A1. 92A1 if you want to put night sights or a light on it.  I like the M9A1 better than the 92A1, but good luck finding one under a grand right now.

I am very happy with my m9a1.

The 92fs has a funny silhouette. If you don't want the rail at least go m9.

A1 or 92 compact if you're thinking you might carry it.

I chose the 92A1.  Great guns with the advantage of a rail and actual replaceable sights.

I have a 92, 92a1, M9a3 and a 92 LTT. The LTT is my favorite but the 92a1 is a great deal.

Make mine an M9.

ZERO lawyer-spew on an M9.

Started with the 92FS, eventually ended up with the 92 Vertec G model and couldn't be happier.

G Model hte safety works only as a de-cocker, it bounces back up after dropping the hammer.  I also much prefer the straight backstrap and the light rail option of the Vertec.  They are harder and harder to find though, so the $400 days are long gone.

The M9A1 is a good choice IMO. Just slap a light and good grips and its good to go. Not sure what they're going for in the current market but its a good starting point. Below is my M9A1 that is used for HD. I changed out all the plastic parts to metal.

Another option would be the 92X in full size. Its basically an upgraded 92 series pistol with all metal parts, vertec slide and frame. They are also widely available for a decent price.

I'd go with either a 92A1 or a 92X Centurion or full-size, whichever one you can find right now.  All have replaceable sights, the 92X's already have metal parts and checkering on frontstrap and backstrap, and you gan find them with the G conversion factory installed.  In normal times, there were deals to be had on the 92A1's though.

Anybody have a price range on the 92A1? Even if it was pre- panic price. Just something that I could go off of. I don’t want to get ripped off trying to find one.

IIRC pre panic they were 550-560 most places. I saw one in Academy the other day for $650 or so which is about as cheap as you will find them currently.

ETA: I personally wouldn’t pay over 7 for one.

Academy usually has the 92A1  for $650, lately they’ve had them with a threaded barrel for $699. I don’t need or care for a threaded barrel so I’d want one with out.

I have a 92A1 and it’s a great gun. Holsters are a little hard to come by but other than that it’s great.

I paid $480 for mine new, but that was a screaming deal, and pre-panic.  I paid $599 for a 92X Centurion back when the only panic was COVID, pre-riots, pre-Biden, which was a pretty normal price.  Now, I'd say you'd be doing pretty well if you got either under $650.

One thing to be aware of on the threaded 92A1's out there now is that most (maybe all) of them are some goofy metric thread pattern that there are few, if any, pistons available for, which kind of ruins the point of a threaded barrel.

OP, *I* would look hard at a non-railed 92 Compact. I prefer the non-railed version due to looks, balance & I would never put a light on my weapon to spot-light me in place.

13rd capacity instead of the full sized 15-18rd, so there's that. But much, much easier to CCW than the full size.

If that's not your cup of tea, then I would opt for the original FS model with night sights. Replace the mainspring with a DAO 14lb spring & you have an instant trigger job for about $12-13.

Personally, *I* abhor the straight backstrap on the other 92 models. They neither look right or feel right to me.

My .o2

The gun buying panic does not seem to have affected Beretta prices much in south Florida now that the brand is no longer the military hotness. I have a 96D as my EDC, as well several other Berettas, all work but I like the D best for carry. Accuracy wise most of the others are equal.

I vote for the new 92x. You're getting the M9a3 without the threaded barrel and night sights. The vertec frame is worth it.

Do you NEED or WANT a rail? If it's important to you, or not will help you make a decision.

Since rails are anathema to me, the M9, otherwise anything else like a rail less FS made before Beretta decided to ignore a market segment that has no use for a rail.
