What is the general consensus on using an extended baseplate for 2 extra rounds in a 19 or 17 magazine?

I’m toying with the idea of buying a few in order to carry the 19 with two 17 round reloads and carrying the 17 with two 19 round reloads.

Depending on my shirt, I would even carry the 17 or 19 with the extended magazine.

I use the two 19 rounders that came with my 19X.  No issues, good quality.  If you add the +2's make sure you get the insert too.  And I think you have to change the magazine spring as well.  Someone else will verify that I'm sure.

The 19x extended mags are probably going to be your best bet. The plus 2’s do show up in the ee every now and then.

Don’t think my dad has ever had any problems with the factory plus 2 extensions.

I’ve had good luck with them. I think I put Glock 22 mag springs in my 17 mags with the plus two. Since I had the 17 springs I put a plus two on a couple 19 magazines just because. They’ve all been fine so far.

Here is what you do.

Buy 33 round Glock Factory mags.  Take off the +2 base and swap out the base with your Glock 17 mags.  Buy Factory 11 coil Glock 22 springs.  Take the +2's from your 33 round mags and the 11 coil springs and make your 17 mags +2's.  Take the springs from your 17 mags and additional plus 2's from 33 round mags and make +2's with your 19 mags.

In the end you can use +2's from the 33 round mags, buy the number of 11 coil springs you need and you can cheaply make a lot of 17 and 19 +2 mags and have a lot of 31 round Glock mags.

10 33 round mags will make 5 17 and 5 19 +2's, with the need to only buy the 33 round mags and 5 11 coil mags springs.  The only left over parts will be the 5 regular 19 springs.

So you need new springs to make the plus 2s work on G17 mags?

I run the +2 extensions on my several of my G26 mags (both Gen3 and Gen5) and to date I haven't experienced any issues with them. They work great.

You need 11 coil Glock 22 springs.  They will work with the 10 coil but you might have feeding issues.

Regular 17 mags are 10 coil.  (10 coil work in G19+2's)

Regular 19 and 26 mags are 9 coil.  The G26 with +2's uses the same spring it came with as it is already a G19 Spring.

WE HAVE A WINNER!

Factory 19 round 9mm mags use the 11 coil spring, 17 round mags (including the 15 with +2 extensions) use the 10 coil spring, and G19 15 rounders and G26 10/12 rounders use the 9 coil spring.

The 24 and 33 round extended mags use the same 17 coil spring.

10 coil spring in a G19 mag with the +2 or 11 coil in the G17. Glock reliability.

At that point buying the baseplates and the springs might as well look into aftermarket like hyve and taran.
I have a plus 5 G19 plate that I was given that's been 100%.

I this there about $30 or so

The Taran's are pricey, and he's a sleazy dude, but I really like mine. They work damn good, and whenever I need Glock mag extensions, TTI is what I like.

I've swapped 33 rnd bases on the G17/19 mags and never had an issue.  I was just shooting today with one, no problem.  However, now that I know about this trick I will use it.  Thanks for sharing that.

I just carry the G19 with G17 mags. It gets too expensive and complicated with extensions and springs
