G19 in a G17 Kydex holster will work fine. It just be a little long. If the G17 holster is an extra, you could easily cut it down with a hack saw & then file the cut edges down. A dremel tool works great too.

In theory, just like the magazines, the items designed for the fullsize frame (G17) will work with the compact (19) and sub compact (26) frames. In the case of holsters, if the holster extends the full length of the slide, you will have some vacant space in front of the barrel if you use it with a 19 or 26. This is handy if you carry a 19 with a threaded barrel.

My G 17 holster (kydex) works fine for the G 19. Feels a little different, but OK. My G 19 holster holds the G 36 OK as well.

Perfectly interchangeable. I carry a G19 in a G17 holster all the time.

If it is iwb I would for sure get one for the 17. The extra length keeps the holster from digging into your hip as bad.
