Who’s rocking a fanny pack? What do you have? What do you like or not like about it? Just got back from vacation where a fanny pack would have been great to have and now I’m looking for one for another vacation in a few weeks. Blackhawk. I mostly IWB, but I use this some of the time. My wallet lives in it, so I never lose it. The plastic belt buckle will eventually wear out, and I replaced it with a metal one, which will end up damaging every painted surface it gets near.   |

| I have a Vertx SOCP that I use sometimes and really like. I usually carry a Glock 43X with red dot and Streamlight on it or a SW 642. Plenty of room for something bigger. |

Most of the gun oriented fanny packs seem to size out at a Glock 19 and I wanted to carry a G17. I saw a TFB video showing the 5.11 Rapid Waist Pack holding a Desert Eagle so I picked up 2 (with discount code and shipping deal it was like 15 bucks more than one). I'm very happy happy with them, recently they were discounted down to like $20 and I considered grabbing a few more; I want to set one up as a day hiking grab and go bag. The buckles are a little rattley, I may replace them some day. The strap is 1.5", which I like, but it's kinda thin so you won't be hanging stuff on it. A canteen pouch is ok, probably as far as you'd want to go. I've used it pretty heavily for about a year with very little wear, it's great in the winter when I'm wearing insulated pants without belt loops. I find myself only carrying a G48 anymore so I've been looking into something smaller, will probably end up with a Vertx Everyday or a Spiritus eventually. I passed on a woodland Spiritus in the EE a while back; I love woodland but thought it would stick out too much. Somewhat tangentially I've also been looking at the BDS bag as a mini rifle go bag as it looks like you can stick a few rifle mag pouches on the side. |

Okay, here are my thoughts. 1. I don't like fanny packs for handgun carry, but I do use one when I go for my run in the park. This is the only time I ever consider using one. 2. Of the packs you are considering, the Eberestock Bando Bag is the one to get. Why? 1. It has multiple compartments - you will need a segregated compartment for just your pistol; nothing else should ride in there. But, inevitably, you will end up carrying some additional things in your pack. 2. It has large zipper pulls and only ONE per zipper. If you need to access your pistol you will be under stress. You want large pulls and as few in number as necessary. my .02 cents.  |
| Back in 1991 I picked up a Bianchi fanny pack in black (big rectangular thing). Big enough for a 5" 1911 or M9. Used it around the world since then and took it home from Iraq 2 years ago. Still use it when home going to the beach few miles away. |

I got a small bando free with a pack order, haven't used it yet. It won't fit my regular carry piece, full size M&P I'm getting a large bando for running and general tooling about, will post up when it arrives. |

I can’t believe the prices on some of these fanny packs. Is it better stitching, unique, built-in universal holster or just name brand that commands the higher pricing? Anyway, about 10-15 years ago, I got a decent one for about $20 to carry a SW 3913 while mountain biking. I forget the brand, but it has worked well for that purpose and also allows me to carry my phone, an energy bar, keys and ID in separate compartments. It takes some practice, though, to adequately draw, and for me, at least, the draw is not as smooth and easy as drawing from a holster on a belt. Someone else mentioned Helikon Tek. I also have one of theirs, but I haven’t used it for carry. I got it mainly as a “personal carry-on” to carry a few extra items when flying with the family and our little dog. It’s an excellent fanny pack and much better priced than some of the other stuff I’ve seen. I’ll have to check it out for carry purposes, though, and see how it compares. |

I ended up buying two of the Eberlestock Bando Bag, one standard size and the other a XL. Grabbed them when Amazon had prime day for $35 vs full price. Tried them out with different guns and was going to return the one I didn’t want until the wife claimed it as hers. |

| I just got a gray Vertx EDC 2.0 and a Eberlestock Bando Bag. The Bando was supposed to be the XL so it's going back. I just loaded up the Vertx and have started using it today. Inside it I have a Werkz holster I put some hook on the back of for my 365XL w/ light, a spare mag, a Snakestaff Systems wide TQ, a pack of kerlix, and a set of chest seals. We'll see how I like it out in public. Around the house, I didn't mind it. |

I have the standard (smaller) Bando and I like it, BUT it barely has enough room for my G48 in a Tenicor Velo 5. I only use it for working out/cardio outside. It also doesn’t have a way to attach the holster to the Velcro inside of the gun pocket. It comes with a small piece of elastic with Velcro attached to it that you are supposed to use around the trigger guard. As such, it says don’t do carry that way with a round chambered. I need to get some Velcro one wrap to make a strap hold the Velo down. Or switch to a kydex trigger guard only holster for use when I’m using the Bando. |

These are interesting, I think a few other makers have something similar to the first link. I'm curious if the strap is thick enough to hold an IWB holster. | For some reason I can’t copy the link on my phone. I’ve got a Tight Chutes fanny. They also make a hook Velcro “holster” that sticks to the inside of the fanny and does a wrap around to the slide of the gun. Uses magnets to secure it. It’s my first choice, and I’ve got a bando bag, vanquest fanny, and a spiritus. |

Carried every day in my Elberstock fanny pack. 365XL comp Spare 17 round mag Streamlight flashlight Knife Wallet Attached File Had a G20 MOS for when we weren’t in the parks or out to lunch/dinner for when this guy came by. He came to the house twice throughout the week. Pretty large bear compared to others I’ve seen. Attached File |

I occasionally carry in a fanny pack but use an old blue North Face fanny pack that doesn’t look anything like a gun pack. It’s smaller than most gun fanny packs but it will fit Glock 17 but it’s a little tight and I carry G19 in it. Smaller pocket in front contains the spare mag and flashlight. I changed the belt strap from 1” width to 2” with stronger buckle. |

Bought a Bando Bag with thoughts of carrying it cross-chest on morning dog walks, etc. I'm average sized, but the strap isn't long enough to carry like that comfortably. No way am I wearing it around my waist like a pensioner from Boca del Boca. I've gone back to my HPG Runners Pouch.

They’re generally not an issue, but I have found myself wandering between a mother and her cub before. To the point of the thread: My wife got me a cheap “tactical” fanny pack as a gag gift for Father’s Day a couple years ago. I never really used it until we went to the beach a couple of weeks ago. It was great when I was in swim trunks and had to carry everything I would usually carry in my pockets. All I was really able to fit in it by the end was a Ruger LCP, but I definitely could have put a bigger gun in there if I’d packed a little smarter. The fanny pack does work pretty good though for swim trunk/gym short carry, so I’ll probably end up with a Bando in the near future. Attached File Where I’ve really been using it the most isn’t for concealed carry, but more as an overt/practical way to carry a large pistol and all the accessories/snacks needed to keep the kids happy when we’re hiking through the woods around the house. Clipping an old M12 holster to the belt lets me carry a full size gun and still have plenty of room for all the kids’ stuff. Bonus, while I was digging through the junk drawer at the gun shop yesterday I found an old Bianchi 4 magazine 1911 pouch to clip on the other side which nicely balances the weight. Attached File |

| I just picked up an Outdoor Products Mojave. Looks generic, has two water bottle pockets. A bit larger than an older fanny pack I had with one pocket. Neither look tactical at all. A bit large but now I'll probably find the other from wherever it's drifted off to. Either might need an insert but the bottles look more old guy, too. with multiple pockets, one can keep things needing access separate from things needing hiding. |
