Some modern pistols have moved to a modular setup with the "firearm" being an internal structure to the grip module, is that the case with the FN503, or is the polymer aspect the firearm? I.e Could I swap a black housing for a FDE one or if any aftermarket one were made?

Yes the 503 has an internal chassis that is serialized and the "frame" is a non serialized "grip module"
