Found a pair of commercial Russian mak's with the adjustable rear site.  Price seems pretty great on the pair so I'm going to pick them up.  I understand the machining and finish may not be as nice, but are there any reasons to avoid them?  Theyre both IJ70-18A so 9x18.

Its a nice gun for sure. I found one a few years back for $200, I couldnt pass that up.

If the price is on par how could you say no?

Nothing wrong with them. Just don't try to take the rear sights off there no point. I wouldn't carry one with the adjustable sight just due to the fact if it breaks good luck getting another one, you would have to seek out something aftermarket which I'm not  very sure of.

If you want one to carry and use a little more then get a Bulgarian mak.

Pretty much don't mess with the rear sight unless adjusting it.

Thanks for the info on the sights.  I don't plan on carrying them, so no worries there.  Price is right so just doing some due diligence before FO'ing.

Got both pistols, an original circle 10 holster, 2 aftermarket holsters, 4 mags, and 400 rounds for $500 out the door.  Don't think I came out too bad.

Going to get a set of pierce grips for this one probably.  Someone cut down the lanyard loop.

not bad at all. Enjoy them. you'll need more ammo though. LOL

Another quick thing about maks. (i dont know your experience with them so im not trying to insult you by any of this) DO NOT use the slide STOP for a slide RELEASE. At least from what i've always known about them is that they're not meant for that and can wear easily and break after a while. So just rack the slide back to avoid any damage to that weak part in the gun.

I've got a case of ammo in the stash.  I've got a surplus russian military.  I didn't know that about the slide lock, I'll remember that.

I'm just some random guy on the Internet. I could be wrong but that's what my dad always told me at least.

I have one, bought it from a friend.  I swapped out the rear sight (there's a company that makes a nice fixed rear sight) and put East German grips on mine, which are just nicer.

Nice score, OP. They are great guns.

You can own with confidence.

Awesome deal!  Great guns.  I’d like to punch whoever did those import marks in their whore face though.

Wonderful little guns.

However, you might want to order a couple of extra safety decockers because the pin that lines up the decocker into the slide sometimes breaks.

I didn't get into Mak's when they were cheap but, have been collecting them for the past couple of years. Amazingly simple and robust little pistols.

It sounds like you got a good price.

These drop in fixed sights are aluminum but, most reviews are solid. I think they look better than the OEM adjustables.(Check out JeremyWillis' post to see him use one of the sights and parkerize his pistol. Looks like media blasting removed his slide markings as well)

ETA- I like Pierce grips for shooting comfort but, East German grips are IMHO the best of the surplus variants. Polish Iron makes a cool modern grip that is very comfy and looks good as well.

Yep, recently fixed up my very rough IJ70.  I still haven't gotten around to replacing the grip.
