Gents. I bought some projects from the local gun show, one being a colt ace. It needs some internal springs and pieces. Where is a good place to pick these up from? Or are these interchangeable with 45s?

WOLFF sells the springs, I've bought from them before for mine. What other parts besides springs do you need? [recoil is a 14 lb spring]

Interarms sells/carries a pretty decent amount of ACE parts. No, some of the parts do NOT interchange and are .22 specific. [some are the firing pin, extractor, and slide stop]

You'll have a harder time finding magazines.  I have two and feel lucky.

Ejectors were hard to find last I saw as were magazines. Do you know what you need?

Thanks for the replies.

I am letting it soak in oil right now. I removed the slide, and everything looks good up there. I removed the main spring housing pin and the housing is stuck. Hopefully, it will loosen up after a good soak, and I can get a good look inside.

Right now, the hammer just flops around and the trigger is dead.

Mags really aren't that bad, try to find .38 special 1911 mags. THAT is hard.

The parts specific to the ace are the top end ( slide barrel etc) and possibly the slide stop. All the parts in the lower are standard government model parts.

I believe the marvel company that makes various 22 conversion kits for the 1911 sells the ace type mags

Is it an Ace or service model Ace? The original ace did NOT have the floating chamber and used a specially lightened slide to get function. Didn’t work all that well, so the floating chamber service model ( much more common) was developed.

From what I hear, the floating chamber area gums up quick and requires frequent cleaning to keep the gun running

Would love to see some pictures! I am not 100% sure the original ace and service model took the same magazine. Probably?

Yes, post some pics. I have two (2) ACE conversion kits, one from the 1960s and and another from the 1970s. Both have the floating chamber.

Some parts are available from Sarco and Numrich, as well as GB and eBay.

GSG .22LR mags work well with the ACE system, and those mags are readily available.

Mags can be replaced by using the GSG 1911-22 mag.
You'll need to round off the right rear corner of the right side feed lip. It doesn't take much.
Just round it off the corner with a file and a few licks with sandpaper.
I don't know nothin'. I just post here.

I have both the ACE [2] and service model conversions, mags look the same to me. One of my ACE's has a caspian frame, fiber optic and Bomar sights, and Kreiger rails on it, the other is stock as is the conversion unit. [which has the floating chamber as does one of my newer ACE's.]
