Any thoughts on +P 9mm in a Colt 1911.  Nothing in my manual...

the candle that burns twice as hot, burns a lot shorter

Plenty of hot 9’s of various flavors have been run through JMB’s classic 1911 design.

.38 Supers have been hot rodded for almost a century, and the 9x23mm Winchester has been around over 2 decades.

Lots of conventional 9x19 and 9x19 +p, also 9 Major.

Barrel life will be shorter, obviously, but the design is plenty capable of handling conventional +p cartridges.

Thanks.  Kinda what I figured.  Locally there is a lot more +P defensive ammunition on shelves right now than standard pressure.  Just don't want a kaboom.

(Listed pressure is about 2,000 PSI higher than 38 super.)

Proper weighted recoil spring and supported barrel, no issue with the design, after all, the design will handle 10mm. Barrel life will be fine, lot's of meat and you still aren't even close to what good barrel steel will handle.

That's the answer I was hoping for although +P 9mm is still 1,000 psi over 10mm!

Hmm…. What has that got to do with the OP’s post?
Maybe move your response to the candle forum!

There is not a factory loaded 9mm I wouldn’t trust in a 1911. The only difference between a 9mm and a 38 super is ejector and barrel. Spring rates are the same from the factory.

9mm +p should slide right through the .45 caliber barrel of a real 1911.

Great point that I totally missed.

Embarrassing for a guy with a 458 SOCOM...
