There was a time where you could get Shields for really cheap like super cheap $200..you would be better off just keeping it

Probably less than you think. The upgrades wont count for much. There is a S&W rebate right now and you can pick up an optics cut shield plus for $300.
(An original Shield with apex trigger, big dots, and magguts + is my daily carry still) |

I sold mine to a friend for 200.00.. might have been 180.00.
