Didn't see the question in a search.
Been +30 years since I owned a 1911 45acp. Like my Sig Mustang (aka 238) so much I got it a big brother. |

I went mec gar on my 2 tisas and they love them. I have 4 of them and they ar easily found in a 2-pack as well. About $18. Full olastic follower, XTM style baseplates, easy to grab and slick. I also put a stepped follower in one and it still works fine.
I run mec gar in my Beretta M9A1 as well. Fine mags, for a good price. |

Mecgar is a maker of OEM mags across the industry. They've performed well in any pistol I've used them in. I have a couple of their 10 rnd 1911 mags, and they are GTG in both pistols and a Marlin Camp 45 carbine.
They are GTG in my Springer MilSpec, and any other firearm I've used them in.

Love the mecgar mags in my DW Vigil. I haven't had a single malfunction with them while I've had a few issues with the WC mags.
I’m planning on snagging some 10rd 9mm ones to try. If they work I’ll buy 10 and be done with it.
The DW ones are excellent. |

Wilson mags have not been 100% in some of my 1911s. CMC and Mecgar have been.
Mec gar are great mags across the board. They are all i run, if i cant find marked oem. And yes they make alot of oems.
I run mostly CMC becausesof a big sale a few years back. I had one mec gar. They have all worked great in my 1911. My sample size for the mec gar is of course 1, but I have a ton of their mags for other guns.
the CZ masterpiece that is the 75 series mag will be awesome in the DWX.
made by mecgar of course. |

Buy Cobra mags. They outperform everything else out there, if you are talking about 7 or 8 round mags. Their 10 rounders don't work well with certain types of front strap treatments.

20-30 years ago, the answer was a definite: NO.
Today, I've got two blued 8rnd 45acp, and three nickel Gov size 7rnd. The nickel 7 rounders eject so strong and smooth, they will *almost* successfully eject with the 1911 upside-down, at a 45* grip angle. With the grip horizontal, they go over three feet away from shoulder level. All have been 100%. I cannot speak for the officer's size. |
MecGar, along with MetalForm are the two biggest suppliers for OEM magazines for most pistol manufacturers. I use both and have never had any issues with either.
I have 10 of the blued Mec-Gar 8 rounders with the plastic baseplate. No malfunctions with any of them in either my Springfield Loaded or my Sig Scorpion Carry.
Between CZ, 1911, Beretta, Sig, and now BHP magazines I've spent a few thousand on Mec Gar magazines in the past few years. They make great stuff. |
I have two MECGAR 1911 8rds they don’t work in my MEUSOC clone.

My Dan Wesson vigil did not care for the Wilson combat mags
Ordered some mec gars and they function flawlessly. |
Rob @ ACW does not recommend WC mags for 9MM 1911's. Rob says they ride too high. YMMV.
I ran across a bunch of 9mm one's from a dealer retiring for $8 each, tried about 1/2 of them in a series 70 Colt. Worked great, no issues. I have maybe 1/2 dozen in .45acp, no issues with those either.
I always preferred CMC PowerMag, which are made/owned by Wilson now. I'd had issues with Wilson mags, granted this was 20+ years ago. Do they still replace them for free for life?
I don't think I have ever seen or heard anyone say anything bad about a MecGar magazine. Rob @ ACW does not recommend WC mags for 9MM 1911's. Rob says they ride too high. YMMV. View Quote Good to know, thanks for posting that. |

I stick with Wilson, Tripp or Ed Brown but if you buy a couple and they run... then run them.
I’ve seen solid guns have preferences for certain mags. Really more about testing than it is a about brand. |
Factory colt mags with Tripp kits are the most reliable set-up I've ever had. YMMV.
I have 6 of the blued 8 round mags. Two would fail to feed on the last round with Federal AE in my new Operator. The edges of the extractor that contact the case rim were all rounded from the factory, but I went ahead and polished it. Since then I’ve put a few hundred rounds through the gun and haven’t had any more issues. They were just over $18 from GunBuyer.com so we’ll worth it for range mags.
I have four MecGar 8 round mags, most reliable in my 1911 Commander.
I have a couple of stainless Mec Gar's that work fine in a Springfield Mil-Spec but won't hold open in a Ruger SR1911.
I've had issues in an RO elite 9mm with Wilsons.
Ed Brown run great. 100%. MecGars are 100%. Some Checkmate work, but only for the range. Springfield mags were useless in my gun. |
Mecgar have never given a problem in 10 1911's I've owned.
I also like Metalform and Wilson 47D. |
Never had an issue in any of my MecGars.
They actually make magazines for some of the Wilson guns like the EDC? |
I know Mecgar makes reliable mags for many pistols, but I've been using WC mags for decades and won't compromise with any other magazines with my 1911s.
Wasn't Mec-Gar considered junk back in the day? I guess they've really improved their reputation since then.

I've been shooting various 1911 pistols for 40+ years and I have some preferences depending on pistol type.
For 45 ACP Government and Commander size pistols I my preference is 8 round CMC Power mags. I started buying them about 17+ years ago and I've never had any problem with them. I just replace the spring after about 5 years. My experience with Wilson has been good too but I've found their tube to be more fragile than CMC Power mags and their springs needs to be replaced after about 2 years. My second choice is older Colt/GI 7 round mags. These mags run forever with spring replacement after maybe 10 years. For 9mm Government and Commander size pistols I my preference is 9 round Mecgar mags and Colt 9 round mags. I just replace the spring after about 5 years. For 45 ACP Compact/Officer size pistols I my preference is 7 round Wilson mags. I just replace the spring after about 2 years. Second choice is Mecgar or Colt 6 round mags. I believe all my factory Walther PP and PPK mags are all made Mecgar. |

Quoted: Wasn't Mec-Gar considered junk back in the day? I guess they've really improved their reputation since then. View Quote I don't remember when Mecgar was ever considered "junk". I was using Mecgar 13 round Hi-Power mags back in 1980's and they had very good reputation at that time. In 1990's I was using their 9 round 1911 9mm and 6 round compact 45ACP mags with no problems. I still have and use some of those mags even now with new springs. |
