Has anyone put soft Velcro on the back of the sweat guard to help with breathability against the skin?

Also - not very happy with the foam wedge I got (too firm / high density neoprene). I've been testing out some different ideas and curious if anyone else has come up with their own DIY wedge system?  Right now Testing a piece of flattened foam rubber pipe insulation that I added Velcro backing too and feels much better.

The attachment of claws, wedges, pads, fuzz, etc. to make AIWB holsters bearable reminds me why I’ve never jumped on the bandwagon.

Claws and wedges are concealment aides.

That being said aiwb is head and shoulders more comfortable and concealable than anything else.

Different strokes and all but I fucking hate it. I’ve tried it a few times with a Glock 19 and a 48 but it’s not comfortable or concealable for me. I occasionally carry a 43 as a BUG AIWB at 10-11 o’clock for a right handed draw but that’s my upper limit for comfort and concealment.

It's such a individual thing. Every body is so different, then gun, then holster, then clothing. I settled on a Tier one wedge that works perfectly for me.

I bought a foam "yoga block" and carved out a wedge from it, then used machine screws with wide washers to attach it to the holes already in the holster meant for lefty belt attachment clips/loops. I wear an undershirt for a backing.

Pretty similar to this except I used a old foam camping mattress, and velcro to attach to my holster.  I also wear an undershirt.

Concur.

I added wedges to my G26 aiwb holster because being a short slide sub-compact, most of the weight of the gun is above the belt line, it can pitch the grip forward. Not something I've noticed with a larger gun.

I don't think the claw and wedge are for comfort as much as they are to help tuck the gun further into the body. I don't find the Dr. Scholl's mod that I did any more comfortable, but it does help a little with concealment.

It's now cool to shit on Stealth Gear since they're a hybrid design but I find it much more comfortable. Yes they' aren't "as good as kydex" but does that really matter if it's so uncomfortable you would rather not carry or pocket carry? I don't wear undershirts nor do I have any desire to so that's what I went with. I found the supplied clips to be way to short though and had an extra set of Comp-Tac clips that dropped the holster another 1/2" deep putting it in a much better position for me anyhow. I've practiced drawing and re-holstering, running etc., and have had zero issues with the hybrid design. Yes it's a tiny be slower to re-holster and retention is a tiny bit less but I'll take the comfort over that any day.

It took a while for me to get comfortable switching from 3:30-4:00 to appendix from both a physical and mental standpoint.

I made the switch mainly because the 3:30-4:00 carry was straining my lower back.

On some people.

I can pretty comfortably carry a G17 and a 24 round spare mag AIWB but it looks like I’m carrying a G17 and a 24 round mag under my shirt.

I can carry a G26 while looking like a total slob AIWB , but can strongside OWB a 19 and conceal a lot better when walking around.

These and some Velcro strips from Home Depot.

The width is perfect for both my Hellcat and 365XL holsters. Cut maybe a 1/2" off the length with scissors.

Works great.

I carry my SP2022 AIWB and its pretty chonky.

After long drives it can be a little uncomfortable, but with the right holster its not a problem.

The claw helped a ton with concealing.

Yes, full size is the only way to carry AIWB IMO. Small guns just aren't comfortable to carry appendix.  The muzzle doesn't get far enough below the belt to offset the pressure from you mid section on the grip, so the muzzle ends up digging into you groin hard.  Protip: bug a holster made to fit a G34 even if you want to carry a G17/19/26; the longer holster makes all the difference. Of course, you might as well carry the longer the gun instead.

I also think a G34 holster is better for providing leverage below the beltline that stabilizes the top heavy weight above the belt for both aiwb and strongside iwb applications than a shorter barreled gun / holster combination.  Without enough barrel length on the holster it's difficult to get the grip high enough off top the belt for a good draw while still keeping the whole rig from flopping around and printing badly. I found small guns with their correct holster forms forced me to jam the gun so far down that I had to awkwardly dig it out of the pants to get a grip.   I prefer a good 2" between belt and grip to easily get fingers under the grip quickly.

And yes, it's true.  Once I came to the conclusion about always using a longslide holster for even a g26, there was really no good reason left ot to just fill it with a big gun since I was already carrying the kydex form around.

The most comfortable AIWB Carry Recipe:

1) wide stiff belt
2) outside waistband holster
3) 3:30-4:30 position
4) loose untucked polo or button down shirt
5) ZFG if you print or anyone sees the gun

#5 is really the key...

I started with the Dr. Scholl's mod.   But after a couple years I went looking for more agressive wedges for more tuck and the heel pad was just too thin.   Did lots of yoga block wedges along the way, which were a good customizable option too and worked well.  But currently now have the Dark Star tear drop on both the holster and mag carrier and agree that it's about a perfect balance between comfort and function, at least for my needs.

G17 or G19 in an NPE, everyday.

AIWB also yields me my fastest times for draw/1st shot on target.  Great in the close-in/retention role too.

Mine is from a local custom guy. I'll get a picture tonight to show you what (I think) important to look for

@Cooper1

The top holster is a cheapo, but one that I could get quick.  It taught me what an AIWB holster (with light) should not have.  Notice the corner around the light, guns without lights are much easier to round.  This was something I addressed with my local guy.

Attachment Attached File

Notice the amount of sweat guard the custom holster (bottom) has, and the fact that it wraps on to the top of the gun.  This is critical IMO.

Attachment Attached File

It's hard to tell from the pic but the custom one sits lower and doesn't lean out causing the pistol to jab you (and print)  Still, sometimes if I'm going to be sitting, leaning forward for a while I will move it to 3:30 or so.  Or if I'm gonna be on a long drive.

I have also tried the moleskin (on the cheap one) but it didn't help.
