Came across a SA 1911, 5”, older gun. Tag k it was $500. The only thing
I am hesitant about is it’s a Brazil made piece. Any difference in the quality
between this and a U.S.A made SA.  Thanks in advance for any info.

Not that I've noticed.

I have several.  They are on my keep until I am dead list.

All Springfield 1911's of that vintage have significant Brazilian content, mostly in the form of forged frames ( and slides ? ). High quality steel and well machined.  Those with "ww" or "n" prefix serial numbers are 100% Brazilian. Those with an "NM" serial number prefix are finish machined and assembled from components shipped from Brazil, but have enough U.S. value-added to escape the made-in-Brazil stamps.

Imbel frame owner here. Well made, everything in perfect spec, etc. Nothing to be concerned about, IMO.

The frame & slide are of very high quality.
Internals are trash.
They are perfect candidates for custom project guns.

Can you elaborate on the trash part? MIM?

Pretty much every SA 1911 has mim, even the Pro.

MIM or not, but the quality of internals was absolutely unacceptable. The extractor was clocking like crazy, I was not able to even tune it due to extreme hardness and hard chrome coating. The firing pin stop cracked after about 300 rounds. Barrel link had stretched about after same round count. Trigger set was gritty, and due to hard chrome coating you can't even stone it. TRASH.
But the frame, slide and barrel are just fine. After replacing everything else (frame, slide, barrel, thumb safety, firing pin are the only components that are original to the gun), I'm very pleased with the outcome. This gun is my favorite edc.

Basic Springfield models have been so reliable in my experience that I trust them like Glock 19s or Beretta m9s.

I've never had issues with their mim. They do them well, like colt.
