Serial number has a 1918 manufacture date. Limited research shows WW II grips, an Augusta Arsenal refinishing, Eagle's head Springfield inspection mark. It was sitting in a display case, as part of the LGS owner's personal collection. I had to bring it home. |

Actually eagles head is an inspection mark applied by final inspector at colt, nothing to do with Springfield.
Prior to the eagle mark, they used inspector initial monograms, then during the A1 era simple 3 block letters Post pictures of the other side including serial number- my Clawson big book has a detailed list of 1911 serial numbers which break out small shipments to units - might be able to find where it went after colt. |

359209 shipment serial ranges:
7/1/18 bush terminal Brooklyn NY 352000-360000 7/5/18 bush terminal Brooklyn NY 354000-365000 7/10/18 259000- 365000 USMC Philadelphia The above amounts were 5,000 for each Brooklyn shipment and 100 pistols to USMC So a very slight possibility it was shipped to USMC but most likely was destined for Europe with the AEF Cool history |
