I recently got a 44Mag barrel for my 50.  With the 2 mags.  .50 has been reliable 100%. The 44mag so far has failed to extract & feed a new rd several times with both mags.  Slamming the next rd into the case in the chamber.  I rip the mag out, then retract the slide to extract & continue on.  Sometimes it's the 4rd rd of the mag, other times it's 1 after the other.  I tried several types of 44mag ammo.
Is this growing pains for a new barrel mag combo, or am I missing something?  Granted the DE was a little dirty, but running some .50 after proved to be reliable.

New in package barrel, or a used one you bought somewhere?

Man, I have the three barrels (.357, .44, .50).  Purchased them all (and the magazines) directly from Kahr.  All three of them give me failures to extract and feed.  Come to think of it, I haven't been able to shoot an entire magazine in either caliber without FTF/FTE.

I have about 100 rds on the .50, and about .150 each on the other two barrels.  I figure it's part of the break-in process.  (Maybe the Tungsten cerakote finish slows down the slide?)  I dunno.  your thoughts (and prayers) are welcome.

I've ran into this when the ammunition was underpowered or "less gassy".

If you reload, bump up the load and step it up to near max.

My 357mag had your problems with factory ammunition, but reloading solved my dilemma and my brass looks great with zero pressure signs.

New 44mag kit with the barrel & 2 mags.  Factory ammo.  Some of it good hunting ammo 270gr softpoints, some 300gr JHP's too.

Was the ammo on the recommend list provided by Magnum Research?

I have had good functioning with 240 gr. Win White Box and 240 gr. Fed. American Eagle in both of my .44 barrels that I've shot it in.  MRI once told me they use Magtech ammo for function testing, although that was for .357 Mag.  But if they use it for one, it stands to reason they use it for .44 as well.

Having said that, if it's not extracting the spent cases it's probably not an ammo issue.  It sounds like you either have a rough chamber or an extractor issue.  And if you are using the same slide / bolt / extractor for .50 as for .44, that points me toward the chamber being the culprit.  It might be worth at least an email to MRI.

Take a look at the case heads of your brass.  My .429 DE barrel has there funny swipes at the ejector.  None of my brass from other calibers shows this.  I suspect it means the brass is not rotating with the bolt as it unlocks, leaving the swipe mark from the ejector.  Mine still extracts and ejects fine, so maybe this isn't it.  But it's another thing to check.

Yep Magtech 240gr soft points were also used.... All that ammo functions fine in my Henry. Not sure it's the firearm since 50 has & continues to function fine.

The only factory ammo I've tried is 357 federal hydrashocks and 44 mag fiocci. But that's only because they were just sitting on the shelf here at the house and I decided to give em a go. Everything else has been hand loaded.

I don't know what part of FL you guys are in. Maybe a get together if your close and we can figure this out. I've got a couple 357 barrels, a couple 44 barrels and a couple 50 barrels with some known reliable hand loads it shouldn't be too hard to isolate these issues.
