Is there such a thing as 40S&W +P? Does anyone make a fast 40cal round?

Why would you need one?

Technically yes but 40s&w is already so high pressure pushing it further is a bit sketchy.

But you can find some 40s&w loads that manage 550ftlb of energy which beats out 45acp

There is no SAAMI spec. for .40 S&W +P. Therefore, there is no such thing. Marketing hype.

“40 S&W+P” is a marketing gimmick.

In the real world, it’s either a Kabooom! ...  or some unknowning newbie’s reference to the 10mm AUTO, which is what said newbie meant anyway.

40SW is the exact same pressure as 9mm

Just use 180gr HST and 180gr Ranger Bonded.

Corbon used to make a 135 grain load at 1350 fps rated at 535 ft lbs. at the muzzle. This was 93-95. I still reload this. +p Idk. I use bluedot to replicate. Too late and too rummied up to remember the grain.

I used to carry that load in the early 90's. I still have some and the box says +P...It's a smokin hot load buy SAAMI says there is no +P in 40.

This. And it's really all I shoot & carry.
180gr Gold Dots, HST, & Ranger bonded will get it done.  There are some fast 155gr options as posted.  I have some gimmicky 100gr .40 that claims on the package 1500fps....bought 20rds for $5 at a gun show 10 years ago. Still haven't shot it. Don't want to.

If you dont handload then look at Underwood ammo if you want more speed, fast shipping too.  There isn't technically a .40 +P just like there isn't a 10mm +P but you can load both a lot warmer than typical factory loads.  It's astounding how many people still think the 40 is loaded to max from the big three ammo makers, they never load for capability, they load for budget.

Look at the LuckyGunner labs. They shoot a ton of 40. The Remington Golden Saber Bonded 165 grain is flat out moving.

40 SW is weird and I wish they would come out with a +P. The 155gr stuff, even the FMJ is smoking hot going 1200fps. The 165gr loads can be either 1050 or 1150 and you will not know which until you try it. The most consistency seems to be with the 180gr loads that hover around 1000 +or- 50fps.

I bought a case of Blazer Aluminum 165gr TMJ about 10 years ago thinking it would be good practice ammo but it was so damn hot it was almost unshootable. Must have been close to 1200fps. Should have been labeled as +P+!! Most other 165gr FMJ loads seems fairly tame.

Commercial 165 loads have more muzzle energy & velocity than 180 loads, while having slightly less recoil.  Both have the same SAAMI pressure.
