I walked into my local pawn shop today and the counter guy said "boy do I have deal for you" and brought me over a older (10/24/88) Taurus PT-99 AF.

It looked sorta odd and then I figured it out.....Someone had removed most of the frame finish trying to make a "two-tone" out of it.

I noticed that it had very little finish wear on the barrel so I asked how much he wanted for that "custom specimen" and he said $150.00 + tax and I countered with $135.00 OTD. He made a "executive decision" and sold it to me for the $135.00.

They were cleaning out the "mercy file" and forfeiting stuff peeps had not paid on for six months......That pistol had been in constant pawn since 2011 at 10% interest on a $100.00 loan for all that time.....If my math is correct the owner had paid a bit better than 1K in interest on that $100.00 loan not counting any late fees.

Nice find and great price. Those are a great deal in many ways. I bought one years ago and sorry I sold it. Congrats

once again, your scores are un-freaking-believable.  Keep an eye on that rear sight though.  They are known to come apart and parts are unobtanium

I like the Taurus 92 clone but would rather have the fixed sight model.   Great find Op, it’d be interesting to see how the frame would accept anodizing.
I bought a rough 439 and used a bottle of Birchwood Casey black anodize to touch up the alloy frame.  Does’t look quite as shiny as factory finish but might be worth a try if you don’t like the two tone look.  The whole pistol might look pretty good Cerokoted.

WTF................... No wonder he sold you the firearm for 135 OTD.  He made a grand on interest alone. Should have just gave it to you honestly.

Very interesting why someone would leave it there for all that time frame and then just let it go?  Strange.  Have fun with your new acquisition.  I also vote for a proper refinish if your inclined to do so.  But if it's mechanically sound and you don't mind the faux two tone finish enjoy it for what it is, a great deal on a good shooter.

I heard tell of the same thing so when I called Taurus about the born-on date I asked if rear sight parts were still available for that model and the woman on the phone said that they were. That was good to know for sure.

They are good guns. I have a PT92.  The only thing that sucks is that you can’t use Beretta magazines

I picked up a Girsan Beretta copy. A good gun and it takes Beretta magazines

My mom had a '88 Taurus. I think it had a v6.

Nice score. Mine is probably from around the same time frame. I paid $250 or $280 years ago.

They are good shooters and a lot of the Beretta parts will fit. Mecgar 20 rounders work well too.  I put a SiCo threaded barrel on mine and some Houge g10 grips. Might 3D print some taller suppressor sights or a red dot mount.

Nice score. I have a 1994 model PT99 with the saftey decocker and checkered grips. I traded a cheap Llama .45 for it.   The PT99 had a broken trigger bar so I sent it to Taurus and they fixed it for free.....still a good shooter.

Nice score!

My first PT99 was a late 80's in blue. Other than the rust my salty hands caused that thing shot like a dream. A co-worker talked me out of it and a few years ago I got another but in stainless and I'll sell a lot of other things before that one.

Who wouldn't have bought that pistol?

My PT92 was the first real handgun I ever purchased.  I was 16 and my dad bought it with my money.  I really wanted a Browning Hi Power, but couldn't afford it.  I think the PT92 cost about $400 new in 1986.  Have used a Beretta factory threaded barrel in it to shoot suppressed.  Will never sell it.

First handgun I bought, went overseas and the ex got rid of it. Still miss that gun.
