I found this 1st issue 1968 Colt Cobra at a local pawn shop for $550.00 yesterday. I put $200.00 down to hold it on lay-away and paid the remainder this morning and took it home. No box but it did come with a nice Bucheimer holster of the same vintage.

There is very little evidence that it was ever shot. The stocks are numbered to the frame/crane.

I had one like it get away from me back in the late 80s in a trade so I figured if I ever saw another for a halfway decent price I get it.

I never quite figured out why my Cobra would be considered a 1st issue when it has the shorter Agent frame. You would think it would be called a 2nd issue as the Cobras made before the mid-60s had a full frame and the shrouded rod versions would have been 3rd issue. Go figure.

I weighed the Cobra and my S&W Model 38 (5-shot J frame) and the Cobra is around .6 oz heavier though it feels lighter for some reason. I'll take that .6oz increase for a extra round in the cylinder any day.

Nice piece.  Cobra is the only snake gun that can still be found for somewhat reasonable money.  The market always valued the Dec Special higher.

When you hold it, does it make you talk like Jack Webb?

You got a good one for that price . I would have jumped on it for that . I just ran across a real nice clean about 1967 Colt Official Police 4 in 38 spl . I passed on a few years back now they are up in price and I just did not want to go that high . but found a deal he wanted 300 and I would have took it , but after a while he said 220 out the door plus 5 for the check . I took it
