I've been told you can't nitrate small parts because of the heat involved. I've always wondered what is considered to small to coat.  David

I’ve sent out a bunch of pins never any issue. I only used stainless pins though FYI.  Threw a pre fit extractor in once just to see. No issues so far with that either. But wouldn’t recommend cus most likely changes the spring tension from the heat cycle.  They can do carbon steal too just have keep separate from the stainless parts.
