I like Smith and Wesson revolvers and there are many variations between models to make them different weight.  Including stocks.  Among other differences.  Barrel length, shrouded barrel, not shrouded, heavy barrel.  Tapered barrel.  Round butt, square butt.  And then there even differences in hammers and triggers.  Also, newer style lock guns have different shaped frames than older guns.  So there is a lot that can make a weight different of even 1 model smith and wesson.

But I would like to keep it open to any brand.  I will update the weights in the first post, as people post their weights.  Please be as accurate and datailed as possible as to the model of your gun and any info on variation, including stocks (grip) and even finishes.  Barrel length and profile if applicable.  And for Smith's the change number "-2, etc".

I hope we can get some good participation.  I know I may be anal about weights and stuff, but it seems like when we carry a gun a lot of us are interested how one model may stack up against another.   Especially if we're considering buying one.....  And many people buy guns on line, so it's hard to feel the balance and this may help.

Pics of your gun on the scale is welcomed.

All weights are unloaded.  Or at least that is my goal.

I was thinking to myself, wow, a tyler T grip weighs 3.5 approx ounces... LOL.  My bad.  Thank you for pointing that out.  I assumed the caliber on the single six was .38 / .357.  And actually the Pietta, might be good to know that caliber.  Is that a .44 caliber? (I actually have one just like it, I was going to bust those out for weights too.  I also have a shorter one.  I think it's a Navy in .36 caliber.  With an octogonol barrel.)

I'm not sure I should put that up in the list

Can you actually weigh it?  I'd be interested to see what it really is.  And others might too.

The 337 along with the 360/340PDs are going to be about 12oz

Scandium frames and titanium cylinders......pretty much the lightest 38s/357 on the market

The spirit of this thread is to get exact weights, with the type of stocks / grips on the gun.  And any other variation.  There are all kinds of general weights on the internet.  Hopefully that doesn't sound too anal.  LOL.  I'm just wanting to be specific.

You let me know what if any specifics you're looking for. I have over 70 revolvers with the vast majority of them being S&W's in .38 or .357..

If you could give the dash numbers with each gun.  And what stocks you have on it.

If you want to weigh some, go to town.  I'll update the database as you post.  I add these on the smith and wesson forum too.  Well just the smiths of course.

ETA:  I just saw your post in the pic thread.  So I got my answers to the first question.  Thanks a LOT!

Ok, I'll play, lets do the Colt Double Actions first

Starting with a Colt 1877 in 38 Colt, 4 1/2" bbl.
Attachment Attached File

Followed by a 41 Colt, also a 4 1/2" bbl.  A full 1 oz difference with the bigger hole!
Attachment Attached File

Next, a first series Officer's Model in 38 Colt.  These are pretty rare and most collectors will never see one in the wild.  Unfortunately this one has a rather poor refinish.  It is a flat top target model 1892/New Army New Navy (the cylinder turns the wrong way).
Attachment Attached File

Next up, a little Pocket Positive 3 1/2" bbl 32 Police, this one is in rather typical well carried/sweated on condition.  As you can see, the little thing weighs next to nothing.

The next post will be my more modern Colt revolvers,

A couple of more modern Colt DAs

Next up, a Army Special in 41 Colt, with a typical 5 7/8" bbl, this gun is also a bit rare but not as much so as the 1st series Officer's Model.
Attachment Attached File

And, a 45 Colt New Service with the 7 1/2" bbl.  This thing is a bit front heavy at the range!
Attachment Attached File

And finally, my Officer's Model match.  This is a cool little gun.  The last of the Officer's models but it is the gun that first had the trigger, hammer, rear sight and grips that would be found on the Colt 357,  and Python.

That's about it for Colt DAs.  Lets see what other DAs I have laying around.

S&W Double Actions

I have to admit, my S&W collection is a bit weak.

Starters, a early hand ejector 32 S&W long, 3 1/4" bbl.  Not quite as light as the Colt pocket positive.
Attachment Attached File

A Regulation Police, 38 S&W, 4" bbl, really a sweet shooting pistol.
Attachment Attached File

A model 19 (no dash) with lots of holster wear
Attachment Attached File

And, a 19-3

And, Colt Single Action Army

First up a 4 3/4" 38 WCF blue, plastic stocks
Attachment Attached File

A 41 Colt 5.5".  Unfortunately, this one did not leave the factory with Stags and Nickel
Attachment Attached File

A 7 1/2 " 44-40, blue with Walnut
Attachment Attached File

A 4 3/4" 45 Colt, blue with plastic

Bisleys anyone?

Not surprising, with their bigger & heavier frames, same bbl length Bisleys out weigh standard SAAs by a hefty amount.

32 WCF 5.5", blue with plastic, has been refinished
Attachment Attached File

41 Colt, 4 3/4" blue with plastic
Attachment Attached File

44 WCF, 5.5" blue with Red Oak grips (explains the off spec weight)
Attachment Attached File

And, 45 Colt 4 3/4", Blue with plastic

@mlg123.   Thanks a TON for all of that data.  I updated the list.  But there are some questions about the 1892 and the Officers model match.  The first I don't have the barrel length and the second I don't have the barrel length or caliber.  I wrote in what I thought they MIGHT be for now, but obviously I could be wrong.

Thank you again!

J.J.

We gotta get some people to post some charter arms guns.

My bad, the 1st series Officer's is a 38 Colt Long (or Long Colt) with a 6" bbl.  The Officer's Match is a 38 Special with a 6" bbl.

More

Uberti New Dakota, 44-40, 5.5", blue & walnut, a shame really, this replica out shoots my genuine Colt 44-40s by a significant margin
Attachment Attached File

*edit, had to delete the 38-40, posted the wrong photo

Uberti Lightning, 41 Colt, 5.5", blue & walnut, one of my most accurate pistols
Attachment Attached File

For those wanting to get into the single action game, do not underestimate the Uberti guns, they can perform right out of the box.

Just weighed mine, here's what I got:

Smiths:
29-3:  6"barrel, blued, really wide hammer and trigger (target hammer and trigger?), factory wood grips (they look just like your 19 grips, JJREA, so target grips?):   46.1 oz
17-3:  6" barrel, blued, same wide-ass hammer and trigger as above, same wood grips as above:  41.2 oz
37 airweight:  no dash, 3" barrel, factory wood grips:  14.7 oz
642-2:  1 7/8" barrel, factory black rubber grips:  14.5 oz
65-5 ladysmith:  3" barrel, stainless, factory laminated wood grips:  32.1 oz

For my Rugers I'll include the serial number prefix, since I think that's kind of like the dash number on a Smith... include it in your info or not, that's up to you.

Rugers:
Speed Six, 157 prefix:  2 3/4" barrel, blued, factory wood grips:  32.5 oz
Police Service Six, 151 prefix:  4" barrel, stainless, factory wood grips:  33.4 oz
Police Service Six, 153 prefix:  4" barrel, stainless, factory wood grips:  33.6 oz
Police Service Six, 157 prefix:  2 3/4" barrel, stainless, factory wood grips:  32.4 oz
Security Six, 153 prefix:  4" barrel, stainless, factory wood grips:  35.1 oz
Redhawk, 503 prefix:  4" barrel, stainless, factory Hogue rubber grips with Ruger logo:  46.9 oz
SP101 573, prefix:  2 1/4" barrel, stainless, .357 mag, factory rubber with plastic insert grips:  25.4 oz
New Model Single Six Convertible, 63 prefix:  5 1/2" barrel, blued, aluminum ejector rod housing, factory wood grips:  33.0 oz with .22 LR cylinder, but my .22 mag cylinder is fluted also (fairly uncommon I think), so I doubt its much different in weight.  I'll weight it if you'd like for me to.

Misc:
Heritage Rough Rider:  6 1/2" barrel, blued, 22 LR, factory plastic grips:  32.0 oz
North American Arms mini revolver:  1 1/8" barrel, .22 LR, factory laminated wood grips:  4.7 oz

Let me know if I left any info out.
