Old seat was fine, but eventually the bolts snapped (plastic, what do you expect).  It was showing wear and tear of at least 1/2 dozen years of cleaning.  I picked up a new one from Walmart 2 weeks ago-it needs to go in the trash.  Utter crap.  Flexes when you sit on it.  Squirms around. etc...

Saw a recommendation on Reddit for a synthetic Kohlar.  Only $75.  Any other recommendations?  FWIW, this toilet already has a bidet attachment - so no need to get a seat with a bidet attached.

I went to lowes and got one. No idea what brand it is. But it is soft close.

If you get a soft close and get used to it it is awesome.  Just remember unless you replaced the others in the house and they are not soft close. KABLAMMMM.

Moral of story is get a soft close and don't be complacent. Know where you are.

One feature I really like is the quick release.  The seat unlatches at the hinge so it can be removed for a good scrubbing.

It's a little too large to fit in the dish washer.

Bemis (sp) the wood core one that is coated in whatever they coat it with. I hate plastic seats.

I buy these for my lady friends for Christmas.  They seem to like the heated seat and the blue night light.

Please don't buy a cushioned seat. I still have flashbacks from my grandparents house.

Also dampered/soft closing is great, but will ruin you for life. You will slam every other toilet cover you close.

I have a quality synthetic in one bathroom - no clue what brand it is.  It feels like it is made out of 1/2" fiberglass (probably 1/2" hdpe).  Heavier than wood, absolutely no flex, easy to clean.  New one flexes so much it pins the bidet arm if I don't sit on one cheek.  It sags the better part of 1/2" if I sit on it with the lid closed, feels like I am crushing a water bottle.

My issue with wood is they don't really last.  Decent cleaning wears through the paint and then you have a mdf piece of crap that is absorbing water and can not be cleaned anymore.

I’m shocked so many people have outlets in the WC, I have never had an outlet anywhere near a toilet.

forgot the brand but they sell them at ace, lowes and home depot.  US made brand, wood, no slam.  this one does have plastic bolts.  but it also has snaps on the lid so you can detach it for cleaning if you want.  My second one only because I moved.  was around $50 two years ago.

Where else are you going to plug in the toaster?

I've never seen an outlet in a bathroom, besides By the sink for a hair dryer.

Something soft close.
Have them on all ours. It’s a hack, but I find myself accidentally slamming other toilets…

But they’re awesome.

Have these on both of my toilets.  The knob makes the nozzle wash itself before it hits you and before it shuts off.  Much more elegant than the strap on bidets.

Soft close, of course.

I would look for one that has the soft close feature. My American Standard Champion 4 came with one and I love it.

Kohler makes good shit; or I guess shit accessories in this case.

They make seats that can be detached for cleaning, these normally have a much bulkier, thus stronger, hinge.

Big hinges and big pads where it rests on the bowl.
