what if the road signs had a nwes lettering on the corresponding side of the intersection

for example,you come up to the intersection. the sign up ahead says main street. but under my civic reforms, the sign will show n main st s, and the n and s denote north and south so drivers and pedestrians have an equal understanding of their orientation. it can also show e or w for east or west, again, on the appropriate sides of the sign to denote orientation

Sounds... okay, but most people are too dumb to be allowed to drive.

IMHO, sounds like a solution in search of a problem...the cardinal directions aren't difficult to figure out, even in a strange area. The people that are directionally challenged will likely also have a hard time comprehending the directions on a street sign.
