ATF Martinsburg asks that you do, to help them keep the registry current.

If you notify you would use a Form 5320.20 and mark the appropriate box. (mark box 2. "no")

Since notification is not required there is no need to wait for approval before the move.

FYI: Virginia folks have to notify state popo where the happy switches are.

Fun Fact: typing popo on an iPhone hints to the police emojis
