It has been 38 years since being on the yearbook/newspaper staff that I was on the sidelines making photos. I was given an opportunity to join a friend who was working for the team to join in.
the last time I was on the field was 1983.
taken with the vintage AE1P for the school newspaper.

I got to really try out the 90D, I shut off all face recognition settings, center focus only. shot in TV mode, 1/1000, auto iso and aperture. and that EF100-400 L MK2 is the king!
Pretty happy with the results. I want to do more like this. I had a great time and it brought back great memories.
crowd shots are fun, next time I'll get in front

those are some great pics.   really like the throw back pic, too!!!!!

High school football I find to be an absolute blast to shoot.   We normally have pretty good teams and always lots of fans at the games.   Fun way to spend a Friday evening.

most of my pics are pretty fricken horrible.   Like this one.  Our team is in the blue jerseys, can't see our guy's face, but I do like it since it shows the speed #6 was at to get to their QB.  I know most of the parents of the kids, currently have a cousin on the team, so, I get a few during the course of the game that turn out ok.

It's just fun and I try and get pics of everybody.   Focus more on the back up players during warm up, so everybody gets something.   Then, Monday morning I give the pics to one of the coaches and he puts them on the school computer for the kids to download.

Wish Sigma would repair mine, they won't because it's more than 7 years old

Most of the time I'm opposite the team I'm shooting... if we're on defense, I'm commonly 5-10 yards on the offense's side of the LOS. If we're on offense, I'm usually 15 to 25 yards downfield... so as to get at least somewhat of a view of the face if possible. I move around and get some other angles too, but those are the most common.  Usually using a 100-300 lens with a crop sensor camera.
