finally got it up and running, looking to tweak it a bit.  I have a few Alexa appliances and some other hot devices that are most certainly sending out lots of data.  id like to cut it down to a minimum if possible with out actually killing the connection.  Also I have a bunch of MS stuff that I absolutely know is sending out data as well id like to kill that without seriously hampering connectivity.

These are the ones I'm using:

https://raw.githubusercontent.com/StevenBlack/hosts/master/hosts

https://raw.githubusercontent.com/chadmayfield/my-pihole-blocklists/master/lists/pi_blocklist_porn_all.list

https://github.com/yubiuser/pihole_adlist_tool/archive/master.zip

https://github.com/Perflyst/PiHoleBlocklist/blob/master/SmartTV.txt

http://sysctl.org/cameleon/hosts

You can also make groups and preferentially block or allow access to some URLs by assigning the device to that group. For example, I have Amazon AWS blocked for access from my cameras. But my Alexa's can access it, as they're assigned different groups.

If I understand what you're asking, you want to add the black lists and are trying to download the list and install/upload it? You don't have to do that. Go to your pi-hole's admin page:

http://IP_Address_of_Pihole/admin/groups-adlists.php

From here, simply past in each blacklist URL and click the Add button. That's it.

If the blacklist happens to contain a site you want to access, go to the Whitelist option on the left menu and add the domain.

http://IP_Address_of_Pihole/admin/groups-domains.php?type=white

Or am I misunderstanding what you're trying to do?

Some of the list files are quite large and that would mean that i need to manually enter each one at a time, that seems cumbersome

To add a list, login to the admin page on your pihole, go to Group Management on the left menu, then Adlist.  Thats the interface for the "subscribed" lists.

durr didn't read, someone explained how

But adding/subscribing there will have the pihole import the whole file and add it.  You might have to do "Update Gravity" which should pull in all the lists again.
