They were certainly influenced by r&b and soul. That's not a bad thing.  Everyone is influenced by something. The stones carved out their own sound.

No they didn’t. A Hell’s Angel killed him and was subsequently acquitted because the guy that died (Meredith Hunter) had a gun.

The Dead used them at their shows and that is why they were used at Altamonte.

Brown Sugar being one of them. A Gibson SG through a dimed Fender Twin, so loud you couldn't be in the same room with it, so the story goes!

Yes, he WAS!  A portly laid back fellow, and I loved him!  We were in the same squadron.

Edited to say I'm not sure if he was from Chicago.  I was from south of Chicago so I would have probably remembered if he was, but not sure.  We were both at Miramar, he was AT3 when I was there with him.

Me too, he used to eat kipper snacks in the AT shop on the Nimitz that was about 105 degrees while we were in the gulf, stunk to high heaven.  Every once in a while he'd sing out the chorus from "Killing Me Softly", etc.

Great dude, snored like a sumbich!

Edit: P.S., Chief Craven thinks you need a sea bag inspection

Edit again:  Never mind, its what he used to call Chief Thacker (shit packer).  And we had a name for AE1 Magala, the little Filipino guy lol.  Cool to see someone here from back then

Fcking awesome!  You got to ride the back seat for bit testing, I rode the front for carting the shit around the hangar bay and such.  Actually almost put 100 in the drink off the #1 elevator because it's hydraulics was shit.  Damn those F-14s lol.

I didn't get back to the shop until after WESTPAC '93, and I got out pretty quickly after that.

You and I worked together.  I actually remember shocking you with a float coat beacon that I'd modified,.  You and the Cali guy were a team, I forget his name.  He had the bum elbow.  Good times!

About 20 years ago I was working in a little shop in Indiana. Standard operating order was to have the shop radio tuned to the classic rock channel.
Every Thursday was a 2 hour recollection of such and such band. I was amazed to hear how versatile the Rolling Stones were! Good times, lousy job.

Edit- a divorced couple owned it. She was bonkers, he was 'whatever I'm going out on a job'. They did listen to a lot of Rush Limbaugh in the office.

Wrong. The Beatles are even worse. At least there are a few decent very early songs by the Stones. Most of their crap from late 70s/early 80s on was pure garbage however.

That is just sad but hey-to each their own. The best music EVER put on tape was brought to us from the UK.
Led Zeppelin, The Who, Moody blues, Beatles,Stones, Pink Floyd...just an astounding depth of craftmanship there.
The US bands are very good but nothing like the above.

I'm trying to listen to more of the early British bands. I sat in on a session with Andy Timmons and he only played from the early 60s (Dave Clark 5, Animals, Herman's Hermits, etc.) By the way, don't search for "animal kinks". You'll end up with some, um, interesting results.
