Take a movie like "The Shawshank Redemption" as an example. it was a great movie, probably one of the best ever made. Now imagine that they made a sequel where Andy and Red meet up after getting out of prison and decide to go on a crime spree where they murder, rape, and rob their way through the movie until they finally die in a shootout with cops after taking dozens of children hostages and using them as human shields... Fortunately not even Hollywood is that bad, yet. But if it happened then it would destroy The Shawshank Redemption in that you could hardly be rooting for people you know would go on to do such horrible things with their freedom. "The Last Jedi" wasn't quite that bad with what it did to the original Star Wars movies, but it seemed to be trying at times. |
