Just bought Firestone Weathergrips that are made in the USA, highly rated, reasonably priced, and I should get a $60 rebate card.

Yep we barely got tires for my wife's minivan. I have a few friends that can't get tires for their trucks. One of them has to bring a portable inflator with him everywhere due to the slow leak. He fills up before he leaves anywhere.

Interesting how the shortage makes it so he can’t get his tire fixed.

We have a shit ton of tire manufacturing in this country.  Unless the manufacturers can't get raw materials i find that hard to believe.

For instance one factory i know of can produce 80,000 passenger tires a day.  Thats just one manufacturer  and all the. All the majors have plants in the US Bridgestone Michelin and Goodyear.

This.

Probably still be able to get tires, but might not be your first pick...or second.

Depends on if China fucks with countries besides Taiwan. Not sure why they would.

America, Europe, Mexico, Vietnam, Philippines, etc. Produce quite a few tires. But if China fucks with rubber exports then...

Or not

I'm an MB parts goon.  We have various OEM tires that are on galactic backorder at the moment.  If we're replacing a set of four we'll offer to put them on a different brand or model tire, but matching single tires for instance can be a nightmare.  Customers are pissed.

For someone who's not going to mount a ton of tires, they work.  I'm not doing exotic or brodozer sizes, either.

IIRC Thailand is one the new areas seeing a lot of the tire manufacturing

You'd see the same sort of shipping constraints and premiums you'd expect from something exported by ocean from SEA.

I’ve had luck buying nearly new sets of tires on FB marketplace for very cheap. Fresh too and well within the 6 year recommended useful life. I bought a spare set of lightly used continental sportcontact 6 tires early since they only last about 10k and I saw this problem coming. Prices have shot up significantly and many sizes are out of stock at the major online sellers. Winter tires are a PITA to find right now. Snagged a set of 4 Blizzak run flat LM-60’s for the commuter car for $100 with only one season on them as well.

Brother just ordered a set of 35" BFG M/Ts for his Jeep, they are 5 days out.

Reminds me, I really should order a matching spare for my daily driver. Discount shows them in their system, mine (Nitto NT555) is one of the few in that size that isn't on galactic backorder.

Remember folks, if it says "Made in USA with globally sourced materials", that means there is a pretty good chance that China is somehow involved. And if they are, there is a shot that product is gonna have a supply issue.

there has been a tire shortage for over 1 year.  It just depends on the tire you are looking for.  Last year the only spare tractor tire I could find took 6 weeks and I had to order it from the tractor factory, with a wheel.  $800 for a $300 tire.  Have been told good luck finding a KO2 truck tire now.

I work at a shop. Nationwide back order and shortage is becoming common things for the service writers to say. Storage spots fir tires you had to climb through before have all the room you could as for now. Getting all kinds of offbrand tires just to get certain sizes.

Makes some sense. I have never seen a rubber tree forest in my travels on the mainland and we used to be able to "harvest" oil here in the US but that was pre Brandon.
