Not more fires
One of my favorite memories as a kid is the huckleberry ice cream at the Apgar campground. |

I was there in 2010 and they had had a fire the year before. There was a large area of dead trees, but everything was getting green again. Mother nature will replenish it!
Glacier is one beautiful place! |

I was right where that pic took place just 5 weeks ago. Damn

Quite smoky in the Flathead Valley today.
Smells like a campfire, too. Hopefully this fire isn't as bad as the GNP fires last year around this time. |
|
Never got to see that part of the park last year because of the fires. They also fucked up my hiking route from Kintla to Bowman. Had to do time in Two Medicine. That resulted in hypothermia the second day and an early exit.
Hopefully they get those fires under control. It wasn't until I started backpacking out west that I learned how common those things are. Never really heard about them on the news before (at least not that I could recall). |

Holy shit. It's hard to believe that's the same lake I canoed in. It looks like hell on Earth.

It has been rediculous. Just a craptastic haze in the sky. Friday one could smell burning trees. At one point you could make out the smell of burning pines. There is a yellow film of dust on my cars. View Quote View All Quotes View All Quotes |

That is a hot-ass fire. Flying out there in 12 days, my buddy said BZN is very smokey. Fires down near W. Yellowstone he said.

Holy shit, that looks bad. Containment status? View Quote http://www.kpax.com/story/38872974/structures-burn-in-glacier-national-park-wildfire No containment status as this fire isn't even on Inciweb yet. |

Fire season got started late but it sure is making up for lost time.
Kelly's camp is reportedly gone now too. |

Every time someone burns a brush pile in California, it makes the national news. Half of Montana was on fire last year and the media ignored it. Nobody cares. View Quote I also spend weeks and months in Idaho, Colorado, Utah, etc fighting fires...no real media coverage unless we burn down 100+ homes. |

No.... God fucking damnit..... I'm supposed to go next summer.
Fuck. Every time I visit a NP a fucking fire has burned it to cider the year before. Man I hope people are not stuck on trails or campsites in that! |

I was just there over the 4th of July. What an amazing place. Hope they get the fire out before it gets to any of the park buildings. I know they lost the Sperry Chalet to a fire last year.

I could never live in fire country, my crappy lungs would take one breath of that air and go into full blown respiratory distress. Prayers out for all those affected.

Quoted: Oh I know, but last time we were in Yellowstone many of our destinations were nothing but blackened toothpicks. Same in Zion. Same in Algonquin in Canada. Just seems like a curse at this point. Sorry guys! I made plans to stay in Glacier..... I brought this on you View Quote Between the Park and the Bob Marshall Wilderness, there more room to hike than the States of Mass, RI & CT. Plenty of space to find yourself in. |

Quoted: When it gets time next year, start a thread in the MT HTF and I'll find you campgrounds / hikes that haven't recently burned. Between the Park and the Bob Marshall Wilderness, there more room to hike than the States of Mass, RI & CT. Plenty of space to find yourself in. View Quote |

Just left there 2 weeks ago. One of the best vacations that I have taken. Beautiful country. Stay safe.

Work in Kalispell, live in Whitefish. Almost all the fires burning in MT right now are caused by lightening, so it is indeed natures way. But it is a pain in the ass. View Quote Stay safe. |
