This has nothing to do with this board. But overall being blunt in today's world usually puts you in the shithouse. Why is it better to be coy instead of allowing yourself to express yourself?

Time and place. Also, some assholes confuse being “blunt” with being “cunt.”

Because everyone wants a fucking safe space and a cookie and can't deal with their feelings because their mom was a drunk and they didn't know their dad

[#5]
People who call themselves blunt and “I call it like I see it” are assholes trying to excuse their behavior. Unless you’re something special, like Steve Jobs, Elon Musk, or Mark Cuban, you better learn to be nice.

Maybe where you work. I work in an engineering shop and being blunt and literal is just par for the course.

You can tell the truth without being an asshole. Usually when you run into someone who says they are blunt they are just an asshole that no one likes.
Building relationships built on honesty and trust means you need to tell people the truth but you can do that in a constructive way. |

People want to be lied to. I know its Cliche that "people cant handle the truth" but fuck if it isnt accurate. I learned I had to be brutally honest with people in a lot of situations because if not you could watch them begin spinning a story in their head on how to deal with the situation at hand. Its human nature. One partner asked if she was wrong in a situation and she was expecting me to say no thet she was correct and was shocked when I told her the guy correcting her had it right.

I don't think it does in my experience
The people you're calling out think you're a dick, but leadership acknowledges the gains If not, find a new job |

It's a rather abrupt disruption of someone's cognitive dissonance. Most humans hate the disruption of them fooling themselves, and more so when it is abrupt.

There is a difference between being blunt and being straightforward, have to at least have some sense of delivery in the message.

There's a VERY fine line between blunt and asshole. You're just not very good at it yet.

Something I learned about twenty years ago, and which I actually repeat to myself is "Always remember that no matter what they say, or how sincere they seem, nobody really wants to hear your fucking opinion."
It has served me particularly well in meetings that are sponsored by Human Resources. |

Because no one is interested in unpleasant truths. Well, almost no one.
If I'm blunt with you, it means: A. I care about you enough to say anything at all B. I respect your intelligence enough to take things without sugar coating. |

Is it Kind? Is it true? Is it necessary? Just saying.... |

A lot of people that pride themselves on being blunt are stupid and tactless. Few people enjoy uninvited interjections of stupidity stated with moronic certainty.

Blunt isn’t a problem. “Telling is like it is”, is just code words that identify people who are stupid assholes. Tact and discretion is an adult trait that some people never grasp.
